I really liked my half diamond until I got better with my short hook. Before that, I liked my snake rake. I'm actually faster with the hook now though.
I like the hook best now, it gives the best feel for individual pins.
But if I feel all the pins are set with the hook, but it won't turn, I grab the diamond and use it to lightly rake the pins until it turns. Seems really handy for that.

i used to prefer the diamond too, but now that i've become proficient with my short hook, i rarely touch my diamond pick unless it's to push the last pin in the chamber down...

Half hook is my favourite for cylinders with paddle pick (snowman?) for wafers
sledgehammers make excellent back up picks!

Im a half - diamond kinda guy, i often switch between my half diamond and hook, but 99 % its my half-diamond. If the look feels like its all picked but it won't i usually find a pin thats hard to push up and i lightly stroke that pin with the diamond and POP.

I like the half diamond because i can rake and single pick the lock with the same pick.
You can run, but you'll just die tired.

I use to use the half diamond but I started using the half hook and got better and I got feel better so half hook is my favorite.
If practice makes perfect and no one is perfect then why practice?

i used to be a half diamond guy, but i tore myself away from it and only used the half hook for picking because i felt i was just fooling around with the half diamond, and not realy picking. I felt that i wasnt having enough control over the pick, and wanted to get rid of bad habits before i hit high security locks, and could individual-pin-pick. since then i always go for the half hook, should try the half diamond and see if ive still got it

I like the half dimond on some locks, and hook on others. It may change to the hooked-dimond i've heard of once I make one but right now I like both hook and dimond.
