Safe Ventures Profit Make Up kit

Hi everyone.
As i am new to the world of locksmithing having only set up on my own 2 months ago it was inevitable i would get stuck. I've bought, among others, the SV profit make up kit. When measuring the marks in the reader keys the readings i get from my vernier gauges are nothing like whats in the table. has any one got any tips for me? Thanks for your help

Are you sure you are reading in the correct direction?

Try using a steel rule with half mm markings. I find this easier and quicker than verniers. Practise picking these though and you won't bother using this kit before long.

I've tried reading it every way. And you're right i've been practisng picking era's and get most of them most times and i'm starting to doubt the purchase of the kit myself. Although i hear it would be more useful when i eventually get good enough to do warrents. Out of all the mortice locks its the era's i struggle with the most.

funny that, i find that era are the easiest lock to defeat and struggle most on the chubb 110 lock.
read the posts, all it takes to defeat an ers is a decent feel for the true gate and a simple to follow process.

I agree with pinky, a little practise and you should comfortably get these on both the left and right with curtain pick. I suppose the make up key would be useful for warrants etc but you could simply whip the lock out of the door and set the stump in the gate, replace the lock and throw the bolt with the curtain, there is often enough room between door and frame.

Personally, i found it easier to make a chart up to compare the readings visually. imagine a center line going through the plastercine key then work it out from there. eg. no.5 just below the center line no.4 just above. no.1 nick etc. Works most time for me. Not always spot on, but gives you a good idea. You get used to it after a while. There's always the CB pick too.

The profit kit is a brilliant tool no arguements.Mind you make sure you tighten that alen screw up properly!

Cheers lads. I've been thinking of getting the CB pick. I'm using the RB one at the moment. I think its good but hard to get under some of the low levers on some locks
