While we're on the subject of master key systems... anyone have any of the math formula's handy? Maybe a link to some of the math formulas?

...as an engineer, guess i am kind of a math junky.

I just received my key machine in the mail today and needless to say im pretty excited. I am only 5 lessons away now from my first diploma ;]

Masterkeying is more algorithmic than strictly formulaic. You need a MK bitting and some change key bittings. Basically, you select the bottom pins for the shallowest cuts in each position, then add master pins so that the deeper cut also functions. This is just the basic idea, things get a little more complex with multiple levels of keying, etc.

I just started the FB program this weekend, I was able to breeze through the first 15 lessons in two days and am ready to mail everything back in for grading. One problem though, nowhere throughout all of the stuff I got does it specify my student ID number and I need to know this before I can mail my results back in. Am I missing something that should have been in the box? Any help would be great. Thanks!

They sent me a student id card in the mail, you might want to call them up and find out why you havent received it.

I am kind of stuck on lesson 17. I can pick the lock over and over again with all 3 pins, but cant get it open with 4 and 5 pins . Give me some pionters if you can. Also, how well is the impressioning lessons ? Thanks.

so, do they like... mail you all the lessons at once if you pay up front? and only x amount of lessons at a time if you pay little at a time?

I paid up front a little over a week ago. This past Friday I got a box with 3 books (skillpacks), each book has 5 lessons. I think there is like 30 lessons in the "basic" part of the course, so I need to send these back before I get the rest, I guess.

I can't believe they did'nt send me anything with my student ID number on it. Now I have to wait until Monday before I can call them about it.

hi franko here. i went thru the foley-belsaw course ! in a word take it.. i have many questions the course did not go in very deep about !. for one ! the reason i came to this site !!. the manipulation of the combination lock. & there text on auto-locks is outdated i think.but am picking and loving it.... good luck.....franko ps the key cutter is nice too

You got to remember , it is a basic course. I have found it worth the money though. I am on Lesson 20 right now. I am going to try to find a good automotive lockout course when I am done with the basic course. I have found a good set of Pro-Lok auto books for 80 dollars in great shape.
These books are gonna help out alot.

Well I got lessons 21-25 in the mail yesterday. Looks like a fairly good set of lessons. The master key system we set up is pre-made but it does show you just how they work. Impressioning a pin tumbler lock (only 3 pins) looks like fun too, since we are not supposed to take the lock apart. That should be a challenge and its a good thing they sent several spare keys! Anyway once I get through them I will let you know what I thought.

My total cost is about $700. I waited a few months and that was the offer they sent me. I have heard if you wait longer you can get an even better deal, but my wife let me buy the course as my X-mas & B-Day presents for the next few years so I signed up before she changed her mind!!! After I complete the courses I plan on looking for part time work with a local locksmith so I can learn even more, this is a basic course but learning the fundamentals is very important in anything you do. You do get a decent manual key machine with the course and the books are very well written and easy to follow for the lessons.
