Places to practice?

Postby romulator » 8 Sep 2006 11:07

I usually have about 2 hours between classes every other day, so I was wondering where is the best place on a college campus to practice picking (with my practice lock... ) with actual tools without suspision...
I was considering quiet out of the way places like the library study rooms, but they are fully lit, and have also considered outside patios, but if anyone is there then they might ask me questions. Maybe I am just being paradoid, but there are a lot of city and campus PD around.
Everyone is always c0nn3ct3d...

If you are questioned... maybe you could say it's part of your 'criminal justice' major?

I don't know how things are in San Antonio, but I certainly would have no problems with picking on a park bench on the open green "park" areas of my South Carolina campus.

If you get questioned by anyone, tell them the flat truth - it's a hobby... and one of the more challenging and rewarding hobbies you've found (if that's true, of course ... it is for me). If you are telling the truth, you have nothing to worry about. As far as I know, it's not illegal to practice such things in public... you're a college kid also, which makes things easier on you.

If there's a homeless man on a park bench picking locks and he's seen by the city police, he will certainly draw very negative attention, regardless of his explanation. If a college kid is sitting on a park bench nonchalantly practicing lockpicking and he's questioned by a Campus PD Officers, he's got a much better situation. If it is against campus policy or the law, you didn't know. You have a whole community of honest people online you can point the questioner to to back up your story... after all, it's the truth.

You may even catch the eye of a curious, outgoing individual who may look into the hobby himself/herself.

As I said, I don't know how things are there... but I would recommend not being paranoid and doing it wherever you want on campus. :P

Why not build yourself one of those biohazard-gloves-in-a-box... One where you can see through though...
You will get used to not using your eyes as a nice side-effect...

Well, ok... maybe not. It's late over here..

FYI picks are legal in Texas, legal to possess legal to carry, my parents live there and I'm looking to live there so I've looked into it quite thoroughly. If campus police or anyone harass you, well, that's all they can do--whine and bit#h, nothing else, so don't worry about it and pick wherever you like.

I used to like a good game of pocket biliards when at school lol

Seriously i dont know what i could have done when i was at school i guess i would have just done the normal teenage things and left the picks until i got home, ive got to credit those of you who want and do love the hobby so much that you take your stuff to school and have a go there,

I would suggest the liabry would be a good place as its quiet and your not goign to find the 'wrong' crowd in there hasstleing you,
