Hi i have this same picture in another post. but i have a different question.

well this lock is being stupid. i get the first pin then i go for the second and the first pops back out. ive tried a ton of different tensions and i keep maintaing or increasing the tension so it "will" stay in. but this pnes different. post here if you got my answer. heres the lock.

ok..ok... well practicing might not do any good. because this lock should be easy. there isnt any security pins either. its just i get everyother pin and the front one will not go up. ive tried getting the front one first then moving to the others but when im on the last pin the the front pin falls down and i cant get it to stay up above the shearline. ive tried different tensions.....different picking combos, ive tried raking......and nothing the stupid front pin will not stay up....please someone post here if you got my answer.

Alright.

The only thing I'm going to point out is that if you have definately set every other pin, you should be able to lift the first pin up to the shear and have the lock turn. So, it's not the first pin that's the problem, as I'm reading your description it sounds like you are actually not setting the others properly.

To hazard a guess I would say that you are consistantly breeching one of the chambers by driving the bottom pin up past the sheer line, then keeping it tensed in that position, that way the last pins you try to set will be unresponsive.

ok....uhhh what do you mean by keeping it tensed in that postition? and you mean the top pins cause the pins are at the top..........

No, actually I don't mean the top pins.

I mean that I believe you are shoving one of the bottom pins into the top chamber.

Which isn't good.

Here's a diagram:

$ < - spring
| | < - driver pin
__ < - sheer line

< - bottom pin (i made it twice as long for the following image:)

I believe that you are doing this:

$

__

see what I mean?

When you jam that bottom pin up past the sheer line, you may catch it up there with the tension you are applying, but it's still blocking the rotation of the plug.

Yanno?

I believe you will find this lock has a spool on the third pin in from the front, good luck!
