Looking for special repinning tool - Help wanted.

Hello -

For repinning my euro-cylinders (and also us-cylinders) I got this nice kit from multipick-service (it's the last picture on the page) it works REALLY well and they also have a pro-repinning guide with some great pictures on the site (pdf-file is in the same link).

http://www.multipick-service.cc/htdocs/ ... ainzyl.php

On the picture - product 8117 - the tool for removing the clips/rings is also used on us locks and most of you know it.

On the other hand, to put the clips/rings back on (without bending them and making sure they are applied with the same pressure all the way around) you can buy product 8118, the mounting pliers. But that thing is nearly 220$ - for a pliers.

I thought that was just plain crazy and the mounting pliers was the only thing i did not buy from the set. The site though, is fair enough to add this comment to the pliers:

"The price of the special mounting pliers (Article No. 8118) is relatively high. Alternatively, fine common pliers can be used to compress truarc rings during mounting."

Today I went to a hardwarestore (Denmark) and found that Ruko (big danish lock company) actually sells the exact same pliers - also for 200$!

The very helpful person in the store agreed with me that the price is way to high, but as we went to look at the normal pliers we found out that none of them would be able to fit the rings perfetly and mount them without bending or damaging.

Is this pliers available in the US? All US lockpickshops only seems to sell an inverted version of product 8117 for mounting rings but I don't think that would work on the EU rings, since they don't have the two small holes for the pliers to fit into.

A long post - any ideas?

To be honest i always use long nose pliers and a screw driver and never have any problems but to replicate those you may find some pincers that can be modified,

Other than that its really not that hard for an engineer to make such things so if your not up to it then a local firm will be, the price of that may not be as expensive, if you ask them to not fasten them together you can have a few sets cast from them and sell those off to make your costs back.

Prices for things like that only come down when the numbers have been selling, i used to have a chart somewhere that worked it out but its basically somthing like a slope where by the initial tools are all paying for the R+D timethen as they sell more and more the price can be brought down,

However there is also the problem of greed or no competition, a problem we have with some mortice tools for example is that if theres no-one else makign them the price will stay the same as theres no competition or if a product has a good name for quality etc like snap on they can afford to keep the prices higher to simply make more money,

Stuff from Asia for example is made in the hundreds of thousands so they dont have to charge so much to begin with,

But im sure you knew all this already and are merely after an alternitive,

Thanks for your good reply- and yes - greed is the problem in the case. It's only sold by ONE company in Denmark so they decide the price. This weekend I will go shopping for a pliers without any sharp teeth. It just would be great to have something like that expensive one. Something that could fit tight all the way around the ring. I don't want to damage my rings since they also are a product that you can only obtain through very expensive locksmiths (it's just the same as buying a new lock = 80$ for two rings!)

I've yet to find a site that seels euro size (well I guess they are the same size as US ones) rings/clips. But if anyone knows of a site that sells these - or maybe a pliers like the one I'm looking for. Please write.
