A hard lock for a noob

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

It looks like the Brink's version of a Master #2. Exact same key way as a master. I don't have the Brinks version of this, but I do have the Master #2 and bet they are identical.

Use a small hook with light tension, about the same pressure as you would apply to your key board normally. Push normally up on pins. Start from back work your way forward, repeat as needed. It will feel like your not applying enough tension because the lock has heavy springs. Don't let that fool you. It's the springs that make it feel hard :)

That is a pretty standard lock. Head over to the "FAQ & General Info" section and read the tutorials. That should give you a good idea on how to start and what technique to use.

In fact, I've already done half of the work for you and found you the link you want: viewtopic.php?t=10528

btw, this is a 4 pin lock so you don't need to go all the way back in the lock when picking, in fact you could in this case start from the front so you can feel how far back the pins go. They really don't go that far back at all. Don't worry, you'll get it after a little practice.

That looks like a pretty nice lock as a first lock. My first one was a Kwikset that came from a broken dead bolt, which I still can't pick, as I only started a few days ago. I might try a lock like that later when I go to walmart. How much did it cost?

Sounds pretty good, thanks for the info. I actually did find a lock I could pick...sort of. It's a mini padlock from a suitcase, basically just stick a paperclip in, find the little tab and push it hard enough, and then pop. Not really picking, i don't think, as I don't deal with pins so much as I just exploit the obvious flaw, but hey, it works.

Buddy i believe theres two spools in it, so start pickin at some point if you don;t open it the cylinder will _ and appear to jam, the you need to run a search on "Security Pins"

I have this lock, its not hard, but trickier than a master best of luck.

*IF* it's the same as the Master #2, there are no spools. It looks the same, same keyway and design, and Brinks does clone Master locks. But since I do not have the Brink's version I can not be certain.

If you still have the package it will say on the back if it has spools.

I'll have to take a look at that lock next time I'm in walmart. I've passed it up several times because I thought it was a Master #2 clone! I've got 4 brinks with spools and are among my favorites. I've picked them all except the shrouded. Are you saying this was harder then the shrouded?

Any way, if this baby has spools, he should get another lock to practice on don't you think?
