Greetings, new to this site so bare with me please. I am a licenced smithy here in Alberta Can. and work for a school board, and as you may appreciate I do not get much involved with contractor grade hardware. Our district uses Best Access locks only and I also take care of all other arcitectual hardware ie. Von Duprin Lcn etc. I have in front of me a Kwikset kik 400E Eclipse entry lockset that needs to be rekeyed. I can pick the lock simply enough but how do I get the cylinder out of the knob?

Yeah, he's a locksmith. Its an occupational hazzard that when you only work with a certain group of hardware that you sometimes completely miss other groups. There are still things that I have to go find the instructions for all the time because I almost never see them.

First time I got confronted with a euro cylinder I just kinda stared at it for a bit wondering what in the hell it was doing on a door in Nova Scotia.

In any case, I believe he's a locksmith.

you're wrong..... in all parts of canada to have a business you must have a business licence other than that BC and AB are regulated by lockie licences

Thanks for the info "What" Yes I am a licensed locksmith, not a journeyman though. I recieved my license in the mid 80's when there was no such apprentership program in Alberta. To retain a license which is issued by the Solicitor Generals office you must be employed as a practicing locksmith by a recognised company, in my case a government organization. I could have challenged the apprentership exams, but because most of my work is architectural hardware and the fact that I do not work under a journeyman I felt that it was not worth the time and effort to pursue a journeymans ticket. Trust that makes sense to you.

Weasel, what doesn't make sense. I guess to put it a nutshell, in my scope of work I don't do any automotive, safes, or any of the exotic type locks ie. biaxil, medico, etc. I do all the electronic security for our schools but they are all the exact same system, and are not rocket science by any means. I just never found the need to become a journeyman in the job I do. I am in the twilight of my carreer at this time so thats as far as I care to go. I am not adverse to learning new tricks in the trade by any means. As for the way us "Albertans" speak, I think I detect a hint of jealousy. Come on over from the left Coast to the land of milk and honey, and lavish yourself in a barrel of Alberta Crude
