When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Hi all! I'm new at this , I've only picked one or two simple padlocks and I got addicted to it , but i picked them with paperclips (yeah they were real easy) and now I want to develop my skills but I don't have access to a grinder , and I can't buy a lockpick set. Can anyone suggest something which I can use for picking locks? Thanks in advance!

mmmmm.... lockpicks? sorry if you don't have access to the needed materials try looking at the bogatas up above this post .. they require no powere tools or tempering.... not saying they are easy to make but require less equipment

Hi NewbieLockPicker, Welcome the LP101
We all want to help you, but we need to know:
1. Where you live
2. What do you do for a living?
3. How old you are?
You say that you have only paper clips, well that´s ok for a start
You don´t have a grinder, me too!
Do you have a hammer and a file?
You can´t buy lockpicks, me too, but why:
Is it because of the country you live in?
Is it because of money?
Is it because of your age?
This is here, question 1, 2, and 3 comes in!
What is the name of each of the padlocks you have picked
Wrenchman
Before you pick a lock:
The first thing that you should do is check to make sure that
the lock is your's and secondly make sure its not in use.

there is no easy way to do anything. everything requires that you have the know-how or are willing to dedicate the time to learning how.
as for making picks, try a search with something like making AND pick.
that should get you started on that. and while your at it, if you come across the new users start here page, that will be incredibly helpful.

hello and welcome LP101. I was born in Macedonia, my father is Russian, mother Macedonian. That makes me Russonian
Any way making picks is very easy. Making them look pretty is the hard part
The best material to use are hacksaw blades for the picks, and the metal insert on windshield wiper blades for tension tools. There are some tutorials here for making picks. You will also be able to find templates to use for the picks. All you really need to get started is a small hook pick and a good tension tool.
You can try searching for the tutorials and templates.
You can also find some pictures of a small hook pick and make it with out a template, it really is very easy to make a small hook and there already are some moderate differences between each pick manufacturer any ways, so if you are not 100% accurate it's ok. You just need to get as close as you can.
I know you just want to make a pick set right away, and I don't blame you. A little preparation will help you make less mistakes.
Good Luck!

Nice! We're almost neighbours . We can even speak one language. I don't really have a nice grinder so how can I make a hook pick and out of what should I make it. The tenser is easy I will just transform a 6-angler into a tenser wrench

No that's not me. I have one of those mugs like wrenchman. It's true what they say, never judge a book by it's cover because I'm really a very sociable and friendly guy as I'm sure wrenchman is. But some times I am told I have a very serious or mean face. Even my wife will ask me if I'm mad about some thing, and I'm not! Mothers will grab their children and cross the streets if they see me coming their way. Little old ladies throw thier purses at me and run. It's a curse!

Welcome!
Here is my very simple setup:
1 triangle file - 7" (works good for almost everything, a tapered round one would be good too)
set of micro files
1 drillpress vice
I use mini hacksaw blades which are 8mm x 15cm, clamp them in the vice and start filing.. Its that easy!
