Master Lock No. 1

Hey guys, new to the forums here. I have a Master Padlock No.1. This is the first MasterLock that I've actually tried to pick and I've tried everything I could think of to try and open this thing. Any help would be appreciated!

This is one of master's crappier locks. Poor craftsmenship. It's easy to pick but because it's made so poorly it can give you trouble.

Best way, don't try so hard.

Easy on the tension, push each pin up, repeat as needed, it will eventually pop open. After some practice you may be able to open it in no time. And then the next time you pick it up and try it, it can give you trouble again. Same with the #3 but not as bad as the #1

I actually picked the #1 the first time while I was driving home! Then when I got home it gave me trouble! It's just a master lock

oh yeah, forgot to ask. Whats generally the best type of pick to use on this? We have Southord PXS-17 and another lil 5 piece set.

Is that the imperial "We" ?

Or do you have a friend picking with you?

On most masters I prefer the half diamond pick, but you'll get a better feel for the pins if you use a short hook.

Id start out with a small hook, then after that you can try using a diamond or a rake pick....

Personally I prefer a diamond, because you can singlr pin pick or rake with it.

Try SPP it, then try raking it.

If you can't seem to get this lock, then try something smaller, and go back to it. Wooden filing cabinets, and desk drawers often have locks with 2 or 3 pins. Then try this lock again. If you still can't get it, then pick up some other master locks, and try those, cause your lock might need to be lubricated, and if your new I would suggest trying on a lock you don't have to lubricate. If your still having trouble, then I always suggest rekeyable housekey padlocks(KW1, or WR5 keys). They have large keyways, and the pins are generally spaced further apart, and you can take out pins, and put pins back in. If you do go that route may I suggest pinning it once 1,3,1,3,1 that will give you the opportunity to better learn not to be a heavy handed picker right from the start.

finally got the thing. first pin has a false set. plus you can turn this padlock to the right or left
