Hey every one, newbie here. I got the idea in my head that I needed a new hobby aside from school, video games and chess. Thus, here I am.
I'm 18, and in college. I'm from NY state. And, i'm not sure how many people I want to tell about my new hobby, because I haven't had time to find out the legalities of said hobby in NY yet. So, I guess the guys on the wonderful internet will have to deal with me for now. haha.
I've already made a couple picks. A 1/2 diamond and a rake, and plan on making more. I gotta score some wiper blades some where for tension wrenches though. Right now i'm using grinded down allen wrenches, but it seems every one here reccomends wiper blades, so I'll stick to the standard.
I bought myself a cheap o' pad lock, only to find I could pick it with a bic pen...
I then saw kwikset was the brand of choice for beginners. So, i bought a kwikset doorknob which turned out to be a bad idea. As...I can't quite get the cylinder out of the knob, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather not break it by messing around with something I know so little about.

Hey, guys.
I joined because I'm fascinated with locks, hacking, encryption, mazes, anything of that sort.

Hello everyone. You have another n00b amongst your ranks. I almost joined LP101 a couple years ago when I first had a budding interest in locks / lockpicking but I lost interest after playing with a poorly made DIY lifter pick.
Recently my interest was rekindled and this time I invested in a few Southord picks and a couple tension wrenches. As soon as my new tools arrived I went to work on my front door lock (I know, never sport pick a lock you depend on, but I was eager to try out the new picks.). It took about 5 seconds and the lock was picked. At first I thought the tension wrench had slipped but it was the lock turning! The second attempt took considerably longer, so I guess that first one was just dumb luck. (I used an S rake and the lock is labeled “Falconâ€.)
Can't wait to get a couple locks to start playing with!

Hello everyone, my name is Phil Swanson and I am new to the site and to the trade. I do have some questions that I hope some of you Proffesionals can answer. I have recently moved to upstate NY and I am running a sign, lettering and graphics business. I am considering training in the locksmithing field. There are no locksmiths within 50 miles as far as I know. I find the lock picking trade very intriguing and I think it would suppliment my sign business nicely. My first question is dose anyone know anything about the online training courses? Are they worth the $800-$900 that there asking? Are there any other ways to learn?,and do you need a licence and insurance to become a locksmith? Thanks for your replys!!!
There's more than one way to skin a cat, but the cat dosn't like any of them !

Welcome, glad to have you. You've found a great resource. I'm sure it seems a bit overwhelming at first, but read voraciously and you'll be caught up in no time.
