We have no clue where you live. Fill out your profile so we know what types of locks are most common to your part of the world.

~In the UK: Yale.

~In the US and Canada: Schlage.

~In Australia: Lockwood.

~In Italy: Yale and Iseo are very common.

I think they get Schlage in old Cannuck land.

If not, the Defiant, Titan, or Kwikset are names I imagine crop up. They are actualy all the same lock rebranded.

Get a 5 pin deadbolt cylinder... Preferably the cheapest one really. I don't really know the models I'm afraid.

Check Ebay to see if there are any going cheap, failing that just go to your local hardware shop. :)

You'll want the Schlage, and you'll probably want to follow Illusion's guide so you work your way up to picking all five pins - but get yourself a Masterlock #3 padlock also for something cheap, portable, and good for beginers. If you've read enough and understand the mechanics you should be able to pick it pretty quick.

I honestly do not think a schlage is a good lock for a complete noob to start with! I have over 30 locks I can pick consistantly, many with security pins, but I still have trouble with my schlage. I can pick it every now and then. It has a slanted key way groove, tighter tolorances then cheaper locks, and can be a royal pain.

A much better lock for a beginner to start with assuming they are also available in Canada is a kwikset deadbolt. Or any cheap deadbolt.

Just my 2 cents
