i am trying to just get it open w\out breaking the lock so when i do finally find the key i can pass it along to my dad

I would let him drive round with the junk in it until you find the key or your dad gets it open

Yeah if your giving it to your dad, you can give it to him on the condition he has a key made for it. Perhaps the manufacturer of the tool box can send you a key. Call them with your serial number etc..
