pin feeling question

Last night I was working on a deadbolt. I added more pressure then needed to find the pin thats first to pick, happened to be pin 5. Then i began again with regular tension and proceeded to lift pin 5, I could feel the friction and resistance to lifting, but I couldnt feel it set, did it again with light then heavy tension, still couldnt feel it set. no pop. But i did feel, at about halfway up, ,the friction jumped noticably, at this specific point there was added resistance. Would this be the spot to stop lifting? any thoughts? Oh yes, i was able to set all the other pins from front to back but this last 5th pin always reset the lock. It was frustrating, i had to walk away from it. But i'll be back!

You may be setting them in the wrong order - usualy if lifting a pin *and not* touching another whilst doing so* makes the others fall down, then you've set them in the wrong order.

Worst comes to worst, take it apart and take it back to 2 pins. Once you have done this, work up from there.

I have a dead bolt in the front of my door. I opend it easly kinda sometimes. When I feel what your feeling try like not putting so much pressure on the tension tool and try lifting the pin up and then it should work. Works for me! I just have trouble on like this big lock, and my school locker locks; there werid. I dunno I just starting like 3 or 4 days ago.

Bomb, I wish to suggest that you avoid picking locks that aren't yours, or that you depend on.

Picking your school locker lock will get you in trouble. (Assuming you don't own the school) you don't own the lock. Try to beg an old one off of the janitor.

It's rare but does happen that you can jam/break off pick/scratch a pin to jam point/ etc - and then you've got a broken door lock (if you're lucky) or a VERY embarassing lock-out (if you're not).

Practice locks are much cheaper (and more confortable to work on) than replacing your door lock.
