Brockhage Gun

I ordered a Brockhage Pick Gun off lockpicks.com recently, and recieved it in good condition, but it had "Unlock Technologies" stamped on it! :evil:

i emailed lockpicks.com and they said:

Hello,

First of all, thank you for your business, and thank you for the comments about our shipping. As for the Unlock Technologies name, yes I think we made a mistake... We were going to change our brand name to Unlock. I can't believe the comments that I have been getting about this. I had no idea that the BROCKHAGE name had such good regards. Anyway, it is the same gun, just a different name stamped on it. It is our 'other brand name.' Thank you again for your business and please feel free to contact me any time with your comments.

I realize that the gun is the same, but some ppl must understand my frustration. I ordered a Brockhage gun, and got some brand that ive never heard of before. Do you think the explanation is legit, or do you think they are just screwing wth me and are saving the trouble by making up an excuse? Anyone else had problems with this?

The explaination is most likely (99%) legit. Quite a large number of companies order their picks, tools, etc from the same manufacturer, but have their own particular brand name stamped or imprinted onto the tools.

It's common in this and many other industries to "share" items like that.

I can understand Technik's frustration though. He did not receive what he ordered. He ordered a Brockhage gun and recieved something which may as well have had "Billy-Bob's sweet shop" stamped on the side. I understand companies using the same manufacturer, but if I order a Snap-on screwdriver, I expect it to say "Snap-on" on it somewhere.

Technik, if it really bothers you call lockpicks.com and ask to speek with Barret. One time I ordered something off of there and they sent me the wrong one, I called them, told them what happened, and they were very helpful when it came to fixing the mistake. Just a word to the wise though, if they say they will call you back tell them that you would prefer to talk to someone now, my only complaint about lockpicks.com is they have told me they will call me back on numerous occasions and every time I was the one that had to call them back.

I am waiting for mine to arrive any day now so if the brand name is not Brockhage and is marked Unlock I will be sending them a nasty letter and make sure that it still guaranteed for life. Also will be emailing Brockhage to confirm it?s the real thing. :twisted:

Geez, people. It's the same gun. The guy just decided to use a name that sounds like a lockpicking company, instead of a name that sounds like a last name.

Technically they should all be marked ROGAN anyway. What's the big deal?

Spider, i realize this, and if i were in your position (this happened to someone else) I could see my self saying something similar, but put yourself in my shoes. It cost me 90 odd dollars AUS to buy this, and really i didnt get what i odered. I opened up the package after a week of anxious waiting, and to find it was stamped incorrectly, well you can understand my frustration. Must say though, the gun works like a charm, im just not 100% satisfied with my purchase.

salzi684, I wish i could call them, but by the time ive sorted the problem out, the call would probably cost the same as a new gun anyway!!!

(or at least not worth the hassle.)

I am happy with the guns performance, just not 100% happy. I just was just enquiring if any others had had this let-down.

Even putting myself in your shoes, Tech, I can't imagine that I'd be that upset about a product being labeled differently, if it was the exact same product. If they sent you a different brand, of course you get angry about it. But in this circumstance, heck, you might as well get your dremel and write BROCKHAGE on it, for all the difference it makes. If they changed the brand name to IMALOSER or something, then maybe I'd be a little irked, but only a little.

Should they have told you beforehand? Yeah, probably. Would I be upset about a change like this? No, definitely not. Who're you trying to impress?

I certainly would hope that there would be some "We've changed our name... but still the same great quality" kind of notice on the website, and I can see how it could be upsetting to order one item and gget another one without knowing that there has been a name change afoot. But it is indeed the same product, so my anger would be much satisfied.

Finally, I get the feeling that we are on the bring of a flame war here. Unforunately my asbestos suit is at the cleaners (do you have any idea how hard it is to get coffee stains out of asbestos?) So I ask that we all just calm down and take a few deep breaths before we say something we will regret later.

nah, i dont want to start anything like that. I just would have appreciated it if they had let me know on the site that even there was a chance that the badge could be stamped wrongly.

Isn't asbestos kinda dangerous? Or is that a myth? Or is the asbestos sealed into the suit?

They should have updated their site definately along with the picture. Please don't sound like you are a victim of brand names, and won't go along with non-brand names even though they are the same quality!

Alright, thanks everyone for your opinions. I am over the whole brand-name thing, I was just really pissed when I got the gun, but i've calmed down a bit now so its all good. So this thread doesnt go to waste, I have a few questions to ask about pick guns.

Ive heard that a good technique for pickguns is to click the gun, then after about .5 of a second to place tension on. This has worked a few times for me, but what do I do if ive tried it, some pins have caught, andsome haven't? what do you guys do with this technique, do you release tension or just put light tension on and keep clicking the gun?

I may click 2 or 3 times before releasign tension and starting again, but that is me.

Normally if I am takign my time, I either click-release-click. If I consistantly get the same number of pins dropping back after a few times, I will click, then put the gun down and grab a hook. Sometimes you will set most of the pins except for some of the lowest ones. In which case then you only have one or two pins left to pick.

Of course, there are other times when I can't get the gun to do me any good and I just put it away and pick it by hand.
