Master Lock 500d

Postby deebee » 11 Oct 2006 20:01

Cheers guys -- My first post.

Yes. I Have read the Rules.

Yes, I did do an extensive search... I was tooling around with it for over an hour and found nothing, so I decided to start a new thread and ask for your lock picking knowledge. If i'm truly an idiot and missed something obvious, please feel free to link me if you know it off hand. Thanks : )

That having been said -- to the lock I am working on! I'm a bit above a beginner, I can pick basic padlocks, I understand the mechanisms at work etc etc. The lock I was wondering if you guys knew how to pick was a simple master 500d, its a warded lock, and i've read illusion's guide to warded locks and I see how simple they are -- but I still cant get it! is there a trick to warded master locks?

here is a photo: http://www.northerntool.com/images/prod ... 546_lg.jpg

Anyone have a simple solution here? Whats a good tool to use? I've been fiddling around at the end with a sculpted paper clip and a pick, but cant seem to get it to budge. HELP!

Thanks guys.

Oh also, this is just a side question -- Anyone know anything about BEST locks? the lock im practicing on is a BEST B1 key shape... 7 pin im pretty sure... its REALLY hard to do a search for it, cause everyone and their mom talks about 'THE BEST LOCK IVE EVER PICKED" or "BEST WAYS TO PICK X LOCK"

Thanks again :D

Before you pick a lock:
The first thing that you should do is check to make sure that
the lock is your's and secondly make sure its not in use.

All you need is a set of warded picks. You can either buy them from a lockpick supplier, or make them using a template.

Also, you can file away all but the last two cuts on the key, and you will have a universal warded padlock key that will open any lock in that series.

Just to clarify on the key modification-

The red is where you would file away, to be left with a key that would work on all locks in the series.

Sorry for the double post, I hope this helps.

No real way to "pick it" with a pickset, you'll either need a modified key of warded picks.

You could try using a pick, but I have a feeling either you wouldnt be able to get it in there right, or it might break. I wouldnt try it......

is that the type you can buy at the dollar store (you know, for a dollar  )?

I bought two, took one apart and what's the word...'researched'? it. Then once I understood how it worked, I was able to just take my tension wrench and reach into the other one and pop it open with only the long side of my tension wrench.

that is, if they are the same type.
