My username. I now dislike bumping. My Southord MPXS-14 set came 3 days ago and I have not stopped picking locks since. I have gone through my 3 pin Garrison padlock, my Fortress 5 pin cylinder and a Guard 5 pin padlock. All the locks my Dad owns and I had permission to pick. The locks I bought for the purpose of picking (Tri-Circle 266, Masterlock#3) I have had no success with but practice is the best option. I hate how the plug is so loose on the Masterlock#3. I have found used locks seem to be the easiest to pick so far but I have little experience. I would like to thank everyone here for helping me achieve this amazing feeling. Special thanks to Shrub for helping me decide on which set to buy. I also like my half diamond the best even though I know a short hook should be used in the long run. I have not been able to learn how to rake too. I thought 11 year olds could rake. Thanks once again and I love lock picking 10X more than bumping.
P.S. Going to locksmith tomorrow to get a deadbolt to practice at 1 pin, then 2 ect.

Yep picking is a good feeling. I've bumped a few locks, and I can say I didn't really like it. All this talk about bump keys is getting old fast around here. However my post this morning must have not been taken in good humour, as it appears to have been deleted, so bumping is pretty popular, and I'm glad you've converted over to picking.
I'll be laying low, and lurking till bump keys lose some popularity around here.
BTW: I'm the opposite I've always been a lot better at picking new locks. I think its really a person by person basis. Practice makes perfect. Well at least perfect practice makes perfect.

It's really a good idea to think about your user name before you pick one. I've been using Bud Wiser for years on various web sites and forums. Not that it's that great, but it passes the test of time. It's kind of weird when I occasionally meet people from the Internet even after they know my real name, some continue to call me Bud Wiser. I don't mind, been called worse

nice story,
lets sticky it
Or at least have it at quick reference so we have something to point new bumpkey members to instead of the customary "there is that information on the site, use the search. we hope you stay around long enough to learn how to really pick a lock, it's very rewarding."
Speaking of Andy, I haven't seen a post of his all day, where is that newbie?

I spent a long time debating my user name.
I suppose that's only a funny statement if you know my real name...

Look at it this way, When the Mob kills someone it's sometime called "Bumping Off". You've tried bumping and have now "Bumped it"
Sounds stupid but hopefully it sets your mind at ease.

Mmm yes he was,
Peaky is a separate member not a user name change,

Very good analogy 5thcorps. I will stick with my name I will try my best to keep learning. I think I will be here for a long time because this has turned into a passion. Picked my toolbox today as well A lot more tension is needed than I thought.

Despite the fact that I make no effort to hide my real name, and that I almost always sign PMs with my real name, there are still people that call me Romstar.
I was talking to one of the site Mods on the phone one night, and when we were done talking, he said "goodnight Romstar", and I am absolutely positive that he knows my real name.
At some point I became this Romstar character, and it seems like I can never go back. There are even people I deal with in person that have never thought to call me anything other than Romstar. Its kinda weird.

Yeah, I was very active on a site called deviantArt for a long time, and when meeting other staff members or artists, they would call me by my dA name (despite the fact that I put my own name on everything on there) I kinda came to like it after a while. I knew that it was a specific group of people that called me that, for a specific reason, and I did enjoy the implications of that.

I believe my ex-wife was a member of that site. She still may be a member.
