Free Shims For ReKeying A Lock.

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Free Shims For ReKeying A Lock.

Postby SteveOXIII » 15 Oct 2006 2:10

I bought a wire brush for a dremel tool from Lowe's. When I got home and cut the package open a Shim fell out. The type of shim used for rekeying a lock, not the padlock kind. It turns out that it came out of the security tag enclosed in the package. The security tags use a small piece of metal that will vibrate when it's between the security gates which sends back the signal and causes the alarm to go off, it turns out that the piece of metal used in some of these is strong enough to use as a shim.

The security tag in my package looked like this

And here's an image from HowStuffWorks.com showing one cut open [I don't have DigiCam to take my own pic so I had to steal one!]

Not that this is a startling revelation or anything, but we all see these things on about %50 of the things we buy, so you might as well make use of them.
Not all tags have suitable materials in them for this purpose, some of them contain pieces of metal that are slanted on the ends or they're too short and thin to work with. Keep an eye out and you get free shims, I haven't had a use for them yet, but I'll always take free tools.

What rules? There's like 20 posts arranged by 20 drunken retards and it's never clearly stated, why don't you put it in the FAQ under the signature section?

You're quite a peach, aren't you...

1. Click my sig
2. Click the first link that you will find there. It's called "SITE RULES"
3. Read the thread that will open. The thread is called "LockPicking101.com Rules: READ HERE BEFORE POSTING!"

Or just simply:
1. Go to the "Lockpicking 101 - FAQs, and General Information" section, and...
2. ...open the "LockPicking101.com Rules: READ HERE BEFORE POSTING!" thread - it's the 3rd from the top if my memory serves.

Can't find threads on your own? What, are you a drunken retard, or something?... Oh, and for future refferance - don't go abusing people you know nothing about... it could turn against you - you'll never know.

Hm. I though having a big NEW USERS PLEASE START HERE thread at the top of EVERY STINKIN' FORUM would be clear enough for even the dimmest bulbs. But what would I know? I'm just a drunk retard.

SteveOXIII: I suggest you use a little decorum on this site if you want to get on well.
