Car Trouble

It's been a while since I've been here, but I didn't really have much to offer the community, so I have pretty much just ghosted in & out. Anyways, now I have an interresting problem. I have a '96 ford turus & have had nothing but trouble from the lock cylinder. The guy I bought it from lost the original key, & his buddy(a "locksmith") came out & just tried a bunch of keys till he found one that sort of worked(you know, the kind of key that just gives you a good chance to pick it...). Once I bought the car I decided I was better off just replacing it.
If you've ever messed with a taurus lock cylinder, you know it is dead easy to change. Just move it you the "On" position, push a little button on the bottom & it pops right out. Well, I've replaced it 3 times now, & it's broken. Again. Only this time the key won't turn the lock to the on position. It will turn backwards though. I was wondering if you guys have any idea what could cause the jam, or any pointers as to how to fix it. Or drill out the pins. Or anything at all.

I do realise this is an automotive lock & you may not be allowed to post about it in the non-secure forms. If that is the case, I'm sorry to the mods & I won't post about it again. I welcome any & all comments.

Can't tell ya how publically, but your either a real good liar or someone with a legitimate problem,

I believe you, but its still restcicted info. Just read up a bit, do some research, then drill it.

Or, better yet, just take it to a lockie.

Thanks, I'll do some looking on the net & see if I'm up to drilling out the lock, if I'm not I'll call up a locksmith. Thanks for the advise though

Get a new lockset from a dealer or get an auto lockie,

Not sure if you keep replacing it with new items or simply second hand or refurbished,

If a lockie has done the job a few times before he should sort your current problems for free as hes not done his job properly the first time,

If you are useing a key 'that seemed to work' then thats your problem, the key is wrong,

Get it sorted professionally,

Well, it's fixed, sort of...

I ended up taking it to Firestone, which was a mistake, becase they didn't drill the pins, the drilled out the cylinder. So now hole where you slide in the lock cylinder is busted, & I'll have to wait will I stop working for the summer to fix it.(I paint & sandblast water towers.) I guess I'll have to file it down or put in a whole new steering thingy. That's what I get for being to afraid to try it myself, lesson learned I guess.

About the key, I can't really post a pic because I'm staying at a hotel, & I don't have a scanner here, sorry.

But thanks for the replies, & next time hopefully I can manage to drill it out on my own instead of paying 100 bucks to firestone or whoever.
