I've searched high and low on this forum (and I bet someone is going to point me right to a post I overlooked) and I have not been able to find what king and queen (seen it referenced as "king of queen rakes" too) picks are. I know half diamonds, diamonds, (half)balls, and all the basic types, but I can't seem to find any information about the KQ's.
...I never like introducing myself to a community with a question, but you guys have got me totally baffled
Can you set me straight?
Oh, and hi.

Ask and ye shall receive.

Try that. There are some diagrams on page 3 I believe.
Never have tried to make any myself but maybe I will try someday.

Oh, I see. So they're rakes (no, not rakes. Specialised picks) with the tips reversed (King is a mirror of Queen)? Looks interesting.
Thank you.

Nope - they aren't rakes. The idea is that you insert the pick under all of the pins and lift/tilt/pull out/push in until they're all lifted to the shear line as if by a key. You try both sides of the blades, so there are four profiles. The shapes were specially developed to work on many key profiles.
I made some and they actually work on a number of my locks (although nothing more than 5 pin). It's a cool idea, but kind of an annoying process since you're never entirely sure that you've exhauseted all of the possibilities of one profile before moving on to trying another.
See also "computer picks" for larger, more professional sets.

Gordon pretty much has it right. They are not meant to be used as rakes, althought they can be used that way.
They are pretty much meant to be used as profile picks, and so far to the best of my knowledge I am the only person making these picks with the exception of a few of our members.
I have made some modifications to these designs, and I think they are actually a very valuable addition to any pick set.
I will see about writing a new post about the changes in the near future, with photos and a new template that is actually to scale.

The older thread referenced here was most interesting! Glad it resurfaced. I'll be ordering some spring steel soon and try out the King and Queen.

Everybody seems to dislike spring steel in favor of stainless, but I tend to find it a better material actually.
Outside of the fact that it rusts if you don't care for it that is.
Stainless is nice, but blued spring steel just seems to take more punishment. Good luck with the king and queen.

Hey, Romstar,
Out of simple curiousity, when can we expect you selling again? (or has it already resumed and I've just not been paying attention? )

I am currently working toward finishing off the few leftovers I have from before. I had most of a set finished for a guy here when I got ill, and now I have to mostly remake the set.
I think it will be shortly, but its going to be slow. I am listed in the bad sellers list, and thats a hard thing to get past.
Soon enough you will see some new stuff from me, and all I can do after that is see who trusts me again.

Well, I look forward to it. I don't doubt you'll get off of that list. It'll just take 1 sale at a time.

Okay, I'll break the bad news.
They are too big. Your working ends are too tall.

You are right, it isn't on the templates, and its a severe failing of those particular drawings.
I am making another template of them very soon.
If you want to make a guesstimate of them yourself, take a look at a severe key with major high/low cuts and measure the distance from the top to the bottom of the cuts. Thats about the proper height. No more than a 2-9 cut if I remember correctly.
Hang out for a while, and I WILL post the new, proper templates for these things.

You know, it just struck me to ask if you have actually opened anything with the king and queen you made.
Even if they look too big, I would like to know if they function. After all, thats the final test.
