Yes they have opened quite a few locks on lockouts, but i've taken your advice, and made these this morning using your templates.

they are great to use, and so much more positive to the feel. Thanks again Romstar, better make a few spares up now.

Now those look a bit more like my drawings.

Glad to hear they are working for you.

hmm, I'm glad I found this thread. I'll be trying to make a couple of these and give them a shot. They look like good picks!!
As soon as I get some stock I'll make them and post pictures and will post the results I get from them as well.

what do you guys use to make these pics? unfortunately all I have at the moment is a bench grinder and some old files. Do you use a dremel to get the sharp angles?

I use a dremel, but you can get just as good results with needle files, just takes longer that's all.

I use a bench grinder. I have two wheel widths. For very intricate cuts I may resort to the Dremel, but more often than not I make it close on the grinder, and then go to files.

They are easier to control and far more accurate. They also don't slice your hand open if you slip. You may cut yourself with a file, but you aren't likely to go as deep as a Dremel could.

For the these picks I will try to get as close as I can with the grinder, then closer with the dremel. It's a lot easier for me to get sharp angles like this started with the dremel. Then I will fine tune with files. I can do hooks on the grinder ok.

BTW, if you use a dremel, do not skimp and buy cheap cutters, they do shatter verrry easily! Buy the reinforced cut-off wheels! They also last longer too.
