Welcome everybody,
For all thoes new to the site and lockpicking, LP101 is a great place to start.
Take a look at the new users section, first and don't be afraid to ask any questions just remember to try a search before posting.

If you're looking for locks to pick, buy some but, DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON
I repeat DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON, they can and will break, then your house/car/safe/chasity belt is vulnerable or unable to be opened (think: emergency situation).

Cheers,
UWSDWF

Ha. I see why you always beat me now, UWSDWF. That's a copy job if I ever saw one :) Still good advice, though.

I would advise against starting with a 7pin Best. The keyway is a little tight and you are going to have a hard time with any 7pin to start. I would buy a 5pin kwikset deadbolt and repin it to start with 1 pin and work to 5 as in Digital_Blue's guide.

Welcome to the site.

Use slimline picks, and the Peterson SFIC wrench.

Some locks are resistant to the Finch style wrench, so you will have to use a standard wrench and try really hard to feel the difference between the two sheer-lines.

Aside from a lot of practice, not much I can really suggest. Study the internal mech closely and remove all but one pair of pins, then work up to 2 pairs, then 3 pairs, then 4, then 5, then 6, and finaly all 7 pin pairs. If at any stage you get stuck, go back to the previous number of pins and try again.

You need to be able to walk before you run. Without having the feel for the basic lower security locks you'll get nowhere trying a BEST. There are no short-cuts. The beginners exercise is the BIBLE of beginners lock picking.

First post on a BEST lock?

Isn't that what a lot of institutions use?

yeah i was thinking the same thing...

no offense or anything but its best to get friendly with some people around here before you start asking questions that could potentially be seen as suspicious (such as making your first post about a type of lock that is common in most schools, especially colleges, in the united states). (strike 1)

another thing is i do believe picking best type cylinders has been discussed before and therefor its safe to assume you didn't search (strike 2)

also if you didn't search and this is your first post its safe to assume you are looking for a quick way to figure out how to manipulate a best type cylindar with as little effort or research as possible. this points towards shadiness (strike 3)

so like i said no offense but your best bet is to stay around the forums a bit and talk about kwiksets and schlages maybe post a few pictures of your practice locks, discuss what you can and cant pick etc etc before you jump right into the potentially shady stuff.
