locksmith vehicle stolen

Attention anyone in the Southwestern Ontario area. On or about Monday, 16OCT2006, the only service vehicle of Pete's Lock Repair in London was stolen, his livelihood included.

Local shops have pitched in to keep him going until insurance pays off. If you find Pete's van (Dodge cargo extended wheelbase) or hear of any supplies for sale (he had an HPC 1200cm among other items), please let me know as soon as possible. Everyone will be happier when we can stop 'geniuses' like this from taking a small businessman's only means of support.

it's an ontario truck plate, not that that helps much.

i'ts a dodge cargo van, extended base. it's very clearly marked "Pete's Lock Repair". On the front, across the top of the windsheild says "emergency service" or something like that, it's all green lettering, a big key sillouette on the sides, and a pair of hands in cuffs along the back, says something like 'security is number one'.

Sorry to hear.
We had one of our service vans stolen from the back of our Toronto shop about a year ago. We got the van back a few days later minus the tools and supplies, with a few dents in the van.
We put a couple cement posts up with a chain accross to slow them down after that.

it is a pain. Another company in London had one stolen a couple years ago, driver's fault too... at the shop, just 'ran in' and left the keys in it. They take extra precautions now. It's unfortunate that trucks like ours are such a target.

I'm sure he appreciates that.

The locksmith community here has really pulled together around this figurehead. He's our regional rep. for TAOL, and has a lot of friends here. One company loaned him a truck that was being decommissioned, one company found an old pin kit to lend, and one of our major suppliers has given him an extra 30 days credit for supplies

Its a good idea to engrave all tools you have, that way theres proof there if they ever turn up,

In my last job everything was engraved 'Stolen from workshops' on it which actually worked quite well,

The engraving idea is always a good thing, but I try never to use the word stolen. It makes it more difficult if I ever want to sell anything.

I tend to hang on to anything and everything so seling things isnt really my thing

also my lastemployer was the goverment so they wouldnt sell anything either :wink:

I supply my own tools, I prefer it that way. I engrave my initials and the last 3 numbers of my SIN on everything. Takes just a minute and means I never have anything lost. Not even through 'intent to deprive', but as simple as 'which screwdrivers are yours' on a jobsite with more than one tech.

I know it was a tense few days while things were coming together. Last I heard, the insurance company was being pretty good about paying out, and he will soon be able to return his borrowed equipment. I cannot over-emphasize how amazing the locksmith community in London and St. Thomas has been helping a 'brother' in his time of need. I wish all industries helped each other out like this.
