Are these useful for pick making?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Are these useful for pick making?

If it's the right material, I can get a pack of 100 for $4. Heck yeah

All I know is that I bought a pack of ten recently, and they bent when put under (minimal) pressure, want to know if these would be any better

Seems like they'd do fine from what I can see. Can't argue with the price. You can make a ridiculous number of picks from that. :)

If your picks are bending, it could be because you didn't keep the metal cool enough. Quench continually!

'Non shatter design' seems a good start and as digi said should be fine,

If you end up ordering those why dont you post the results of the quality here on this topic. I'm always looking for a nice supply of cheap picking making materials.

TPI refers to teeth per inch. The lower the TPI, the coarser (less teeth per inch.) The higher the TPI, the more teeth per inch (finer.)

The lower the tpi, the faster and rougher the cut will be. The higher the TPI, the slower and smoother the cut will be.

When making picks, I would try to choose something with a higher TPI, because the teeth will be smaller.

Wish there was a thickness measurement. I've noticed hacksaw blades come in different thickness or stiffness. Helpful to know what that is too. thx

The more tpi the better the blade is for harder material, choose a lower tpi for soft material,

A 10 tpi will not cut hard material where a 30 tpi will and if a 30 tpi is used on soft material it will clog up and stop cutting very quickly,

Hey again guys,
I ended up getting the box of 50, because the box of 100 was only available online. Still, $4 for 50 blades is great!

They work better than any blades I've gotten before.. and they snap just like the ones in pyro's video!

Also in the store I picked up a triangle file for $1.50 :D

Here we go, first 2 picks made with those blades! (I've shortened and added plastidip to the rake since the picture, but oh well)

They work like a charm :D

I really need to get some street cleaner bristles, but I've never seen one of those machines in my life! If anyone has some they have lying around, it would be greatly appreciated! You can't make a bogota out of a hacksaw blade, can you? I've heard good things about those picks and I am very curious
