I do not yet have a bought or professional set to lock pick yet and have been trying with makeshift tools.

does anybody have any suggestions for a make shift torque bar?
until i get a better set

yeah sure its right here

no seriously there is like 1000 threads about making home made tensioners...

take a nail bend it over 90 degrees (so its shaped like an L) then flatten the end that is sharp with a hammer and file it down till it fits in the keyway.

or take an allen wrench and file that down.

Just for the record: I HATE ALLEN WRENCHES!

The steel is obviously hardened, and its a bugger to gind or file, and most people using allen wrenches probably don't have a grinder, so they are stuck with files, and thats just harsh.

Not to mention that often they don't fit that well at all.

I made an awesome tension wrench out of an allen wrench. I just used my dremel and it took no time at all really. I bought tools after, and I prefer my allen wrench to the flimsy tension wrenches I got in my kit.

i made my first tension wrenches by heating up the end of an allen wrench with a propane blowtorch until it was orange. then i took a hammer and flattened it to my liking, then filed off the excess. they worked (and still do work) wonderfully with my safety pin picks and those made from steak knives and hacksaw blades.

oh yeah, BTW... once youve finished shaping the wrench, heat it up one last time to orange then dunk it in ice water to re-harden the metal

In the thread I read about tempering, it said not to heat to orange, because that would make it brittle. It says to heat to steel blue and then dunk it to make it as strong as possible.

Wiper inserts are best and usually don't require and tempering. I recommend inserts from wipers that are 16" or shorter. The longer wipers have stiffer and wider inserts.

I third the wiper blades. Easy to come by old ones, and easy to work with. They make tension wrenches similar to ones you purchase as well.

Get a nice little Tri-circle.

10% the price of a Diskus. And if you're a beginner, chances are, this lock will keep you occupied for weeks, or months even.

Ah bugger, wrong forum.

Anyway for a tension wrench, get some wire, the kind wire hangars are made of, hammer one side flat, bend it, and ta da, wrench made.

I hate allen keys too, the metal is too hard to work easily with.
