What would be an average cost of a good set?

Depends on what you mean by "good". You can get a decent starter set for around $30 USD. You can get a better set for more. You can get a great set for $200 USD (or so).

How good do you want and how much do you wanna spend?

I was hoping less than $40.

Here's a good starter set, and if you put LP101 in the coupon box, you get 10% off. With taxes and shipping, it will be a bit more than you were hoping for, but not too bad.

Is it ok for all of us to use that discount? If so, thanks. I have spend about $80 there already, but didn't know about that.

I don't recommend that set. The necks of the picks are wider than the slimline ones and they're harder to work with. I would prefer a 4 piece slimline set to a bigger normal set. I bought a 14 pc at first for $25, and liked it until I bought two single slimline picks, a medium hook and a half diamond, and now I had my originial ones. Too bulky.

I'm really looking for a cheap one, just to see if I like it. Soon, I hope to build my own (PC Loves MacGyver)

Lockies don't generally sell picks, especially to non-lockies.

And I wouldn't generally recommend a set of slimline picks to a beginner. There's too great a chance they'll end up mangled in a week. :)

Oh.. sorry.. forgot to answer your first question...

Yes, any member here can use the LP101 discount code on Lockpickshop.com (only works on regular priced items). They are the site sponsor, and thus, they offer the discount to all members here.

No, it does not work on Lockpicks.com, or any other site, as they are not the site sponsor. :)

No, you must trade gold coins on World Of Warcraft.

Seriously though, I'm not sure how many angles I can answer your question from. No, generally locksmiths won't sell. Locksmith suppliers generally won't sell. You can sometimes find them in "Spy Shops" and the like, but you'll overpay if you can find them at all.

So....

Online is the way to go. Virtually everyone here that has bought tools bought them online.

Online.

Online.

Buy them online.

You should think about buying them online.

Maybe try online.

Online is good.

 ;)
