SKS pat-p 0007-A KEY MACHINE

Postby paul1982 » 25 Oct 2006 15:57

Hi All,

I have been offered a nearly new SKS pat -p 007-A key machine for £200, the guy is selling up i beleive. I Have looked it up in the SKS catalogue and believe it to be the Tempest and it say's it for occasional use. I'm not looking to cut a large amount of key's or in fact to use it daily. Has anybody here actually got one, and how do they find it.
The only problem is it's missing the manuals. Are they easy to get hold of.

Thanks in advance

Paul

I've got one, it's a great little machine. No idea what you would want the manual for? If you can't figure it out in two minutes you'll never work out which way up a door key goes. Yes, it is that simple.

Is it 12V or 240V? I've got the 12V, I run it off a portable battery pack.

The cutters are pretty long lasting. Mine was missing two teeth, but I've cut loads of keys on it. I got the mortice wheel too, and that's getting blunt now, they don't last as long, especially when doing stupidly large steel mortice blanks down to size for some random lock.

The motor draws about 4 amps max, so you have to take it fairly slow when cutting, but it's a great little tool. Don't grind into the keyholders, adjust the stop at first. I've taken it off now, to do side ward cuts on mortice keys. It's a little gem.

You'll want to buy a little invertor for it in the van then. I use one of the "power station" jump kits with an invertor screwed on the back, it should work as well on the Tempest as anything else.

I wouldn't go for the Tempest in a workshop/locksmiths shop, since it just isn't designed for continuous use, and it is quite slow (at least in 12v form) but since it draws only 4 amps stalled it doesn't kill your van battery or anything. I had to do 10 keys for a callout the other week, it took a while, but it got there.

I would like another 12V one, so I don't have to swap the blades.

Yeah shall be getting a inverter and that i do have one but not up to the job to run the key machine. I plan to use it occasionally to cut keys really most of the locks this way is mainly euros and ovals so changing wheels should not be to much of an issue really. For only £200 quid should pay for itself reletively quick then ill consider upgrading to something bigger.

Just a tip, ring SKS and see if they have any second hand machines in, sometimes they have some perfectly serviceable ones for little money that someone has traded in or such like,

I have already paid for the machine Shrub but thanks for the info. I'll try that when i come to get something more substantial or a second machine if all goes well. Hoping eventually i can get a pitch for a mobile trailer at local town centre as at moment there is a mobile jewellery trailer and he always busy. I just want to test the water first before diving in to deep.
