looks like a masterlock 930 clone.

it may have spool pins in it. so read up on how to pick those. also have you picked anything else? this lock may be hard for a starting lock if it does in fact have spool pins.

try searching on spool pin picking and you'll find a lot of good information, along with stuff that explains how to tell if you are indeed feeling spools (the plug spins suddenly while you are picking, then stops, then when you lift a pin you feel the plug try and rotate back in the opposite direction.)

otherwise try different amounts of tension, tension from the top, the bottom, and the center of the lock to see which works best. try raking it a few times (3-4 strokes) then single pin pick the rest. or just use thermite.

I've always had problems with these locks, finding the right tension wrench was the key for me.

Looks like a rekeyable contractor grade lock, which means, as mentioned, it will probably have security pins and be tough to pick compared to other locks. Most security pins require letting off of the tension after the plug rotates and lifting the security pin up even higher so it sets... it can be very tricky, but it's all a game of using different amounts of tension to work the pin up to where it needs to be.

Even if it is a knock off, it'll probably still have security pins.

I have some input on this one, even though I'm a rookie.

I bought a Masterlock 930 a couple of weeks ago because it looked very secure. Sure enough, while inside the lock mechanism it's very difficult to pick, especially since the keyway is blocked off so it can only turn in one direction. As soon as I removed the core and was able to mount it in my small bench vice, I can pick it repeatedly and easily, but only consistently in a counter-clockwise direction.

Now, from what I've read on here, that doesn't necessarily mean that there AREN'T security pins present, but doesn't it reduce the likelihood?

it doesn't necessarily rule out the possibility of there being security pins. all you really said was that the lock is easier to pick in one direction rather then another. this can be caused by the shape of the keyway (sometimes its just easier to get your tension wrench in one way or another) or just they way the lock likes to be spun. security pins will do the same thing sometimes. the only thing that really suggest that it DOESN'T have security pins is that you are a self proclaimed "rookie". but security pins are pick resistant not pick proof. if you practice enough then they are easy as pie (don't forget about the luck factor too some locks just pop for no apparent reason). im not familiar with the masterlock 930 internals but if you could post some pictures of the cylinder that would be nice. we could probably even walk you through taking the cylinder apart (if thats possible) just to check and see if it does in fact have security pins. if your not comfortable with that then thats cool no prob. i might try and find a masterlock 930 on ebay so i can tear it apart.
