Help with a schlage.

Greetings and salutations to all. I need a little help please. My father in-law who I never met was a locksmith, he was also a compulsive pack-rat. My wife and I are trying to help her mom get her house in order to sell and move into a much smaller place. I was ellected to cleaning out basement. She asked me because for years grandkids/ freinds have tore apart basement including 15 year old brand new locksmith inventory. I am trying to list as much as I can on e-bay, and get her as much money as possible. I have found out that knowlege is power on e-bay. I found 6 Schlage mechinsims but I don't know what they are called. I would apprecate and info, I have looked all over the web, and spent at least two hours on this really great site http://i13.tinypic.com/2n7mhxz.jpg[/IMG]

old schlage wafer lock, really easy to pick.

Thanks Lockpickroy! I think I read a thread with something about hotel/motel Schlages, something about that they used to be pretty good. I have no idea on value either. I am just getting educated on E-bay. The only plus I got going for me is everything That I will sell is Band New, and he may have been a pack-rat, but he did buy quality. I went true everything and if it wasn't new and didn't have a matching key it was sold as scrap. But e-bay is a real treat to, there are a lot of snakes out there!

he wouldnt happen to have any mul-t-locks? or medeco's? or ASSA? or EVVA? or Abloy?

You might also try Clearstar http://www.clearstar.com/ they have a public area that is followed by lots of locksmiths

There are several " close out " dealers who might be interested
Hawley is a reputable guy http://www.hawleylock.com/

Your picture is a schlage wafer lock cylinder.. sorry can't say what one is worth AFAIK they are no longer manufactured

More like really cheap motel than any hotel lock, as said, really easy to pick but actually picking is the hard way, use a rake.

The Pack-Rat defined..When I made a deal with my mother in law to set up
a small but well equiped wood shop, little did I know that ,she had been waiting like a spider in a web, for me to foolishly agree to straighten up the basement, because it was the basement From Hell!! Iam talking two dump trips of 5200 lbs of crap each. Every screw, nail, or staple that my father-inlaw replaced, he kept.. In the box that the new part came in. They would tell me stories of how Mike (Father in law) would go to a flea market or swap meat, and he would be kicked out of the house for days because he would come home with his packed to the gills station wagon pulling a cramed trailer that was full of these deals that he would get. He kept, or saved every thing!! There were paths dug out like wwI trenches in the basement when I started cleaning. My wife and her mom always said that his locksmith biz cost him more than he would ever hope to recoup. He retired from Briggs and Straten at 50, and with his veterens loans and such took up lock smithing, he had everything.. I sold 6 key machines and they were like new, even after sitting for 15 years I found 5 gal buckets full of keys that cut all the same. That is my defintion of a pack- rat.
