i've read a lot on this forum and basically you've taught me everything i know... i havn't seen this posted so i thought id mention it! i found that normal twin and earth electrical cable (the grey flat stuff that powers your house lights) when cut to the right length with the inner cables removed makes lovely cheap handle covers for the southord style pics... i used hair spray to get it to slide on and then once dry it sticks tight (a trick from my bmx days!) add a bit of electrical tape and da- dahhhh, sorted.

cheers chaps

Can you post a picture of what you are talking about. And, how bad does it hurt your "feel"?

We have cable that is twin and earth, i dont think you have an earth wire in your cables over there if your 2 pin plugs are anything to go by,

The twin and earth is a wire that has a thick grey outer plastic type moulding that has the positive and neutral either side of the earth wire in the centre,

The positive and neutral are individually sheafed as well which makes the wire quite thick with the dimentions around 1/3rd the thichness of the width, the common sizing would allow you to pull out the 3 wires which would leave you with a flexible plastic type sheaf which would be simular to some of the rubber pick handles out there but a harder material,

Hope this helps some,

I didnt know your figures either so its a place of origin thing i recon, we call it twin and earth and then go off sizes like 6mm etc,

We have 3 basic sizes for general household use, lighting is smallest, sockets is next up then there cooker wire, but theres hundreds as im sure you fully know,

I guess your figures are the phisical size of the cable? like 14mm x 4mm?

Plastic covers

Postby Bump » 28 Oct 2006 18:14

Get down to Maplins/Home Depot (other stores are available) and buy a 10mtr length of appropriate guage heat shrink. Easier than stripping wire sheath and doesnt need tyding up with gaffer tape.
