Master Luggage lock 121Q

Postby Capricous » 27 Oct 2006 20:19

Maybe someone can help me here!
I purchased a 4 piece Master Lock set keyed alike set since the security on them said "basic security". The actual lock is the size of a penny. The security feature on the back just says "Pin tumbler mechanism". So far I've set my [Mountain Security] deadbolt practicing upto 4 pins, 2 normal and 2 security (spools) and I can do that pretty quickly with a hook.

I've been able to pick this [master suitcase] lock a few times when I was applying feather-like tension while picking at the back but now I'm not having any luck. I figured I might have broken the lock (it started to squeak) so I've been using another one of my 4, but still no luck. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

It is a wonder if you can pick it with regular picks. The keyway is too small and restricted to allow proper picking. I recommend you to get a few kwicksets and schlages to start with.
If all fails, use nitroglycerine.

Its not too small. You can pick them. You need a slim line tension wrench, and either slim line picks or just a small half diamond which we all have, and some patience.
They are considered low security cause they are easy to break. Any of those locks under $10 are pretty much the same in pickability. They are just stronger, and weaker to a brute attack.
Spend a little more, and find spool, or serraded pins. Spend a lot more, and get real security.

Thank you for your replies, I've paid more attention to the lock and I notice that the front one sets first, but to get to the others I have to push the front one up even higher.

Anyway, I'll attempt to use paperclips instead so I can get around the annoyingly small keyhole. Thank you again =)

Those locks pick better with safty pins. One for a pick, one for a tension wrench. May be even paper clips. The smallest lock I have is a 120D, about the size of a nickle. They are easy to pick. A much harder lock is a 25mm Tri-Circle, aout the size of a quarter. They have a spool pin in them and the keyway is just as small as the 120D! I had to make a special pick and wrench for it, and then it was on par to the larger Master 140!

I think you should get a bigger lock, or smaller picks ;)
