Is it possible to make a pick with hair pins
and / or paper clips?

The answer is yes and Sams Choice did an excellent guide on paper clips. Check that one out

It's a little hard to make a homemade torque wrench with limited supplies of equipment.

If you have an extra lanyard, take the little clip that you can put keys off, and bend it at a 90 degree angle.

If you have one of those clips, but the more flexible kind, it fits great and doesn't bend too much.

I will refer to an old post of mine... i hope it helps there are also many make ya own pick videos pyros is real nice... I personally do not purchase real pick sets yet and make my own... I can post pics of my picks if youd like an idea

"lol... ummm i reccomend asking an auto store to save some wiper blades for ya when people come in to have em replaced then use a really course sandpaper or file...u must know someone with a file....but improvised tools i think are best to start out with anyways...i learned with paperclips and bobby pins and T pins and whatever else i could get ahold of to pick with then i made some picks ...a good progression...however you will find if you learn with regular improvised materials you will have a "pick" in hand and all of a sudden rather have a paperclip ahah...i make my picks out of JUMBO bobby pins i purchased from Family Fare in michigan...however Walgreens sells em Target Sells em lots of places sell em call em if you need but those make GREAT picks....hope it helped" u just get a nice grinder and it takes around 2 mins or so for each pick i make be sure to quench with water if it gets too hot as you grind.

You might try some material other than safety pins, such as drain snake feeler gauge, streetsweeper bristle, windshield wiper inserts, each of these are metals with a fair amount of stiffness. The best way to cut accuratly is with a file, but you can use a grinder to do the mass wasting if you need it. Don't heat the metal up, use some coolant

in a pinch, lots and lots of things can be used to open locks. i think one important skill of lockpicking is the ability to fashion makeshift picks out of things lying around. i've found that when i find myself in a situation where i need to pick a lock, i don't usually have my picks on me. my dad once accidentally locked us out of the house and i opened the side door (a schlage) with a piece of wire from a fishing lure and a small screwdriver as a tension wrench. i used to pick wafer locks with a couple copper staples from a box of toilet paper. if it's stiff enough to lift the pins or wafers, and thin and long enough to reach the back of the lock, it will pick it. use your imagination.

You can make them but they are difficult to use and not reliable. I am currently using a bobbypin pick i made because thats all i have. It works ok but i definitely need some real picks and u will to.
