Bumping can take a lot of practice. If you look with the search button, you will find many topics on bumping. HAve you used bump keys before? Or is this your first time? I would try it on a master lock to see if the key works in the master locks. Where did you purchase the bump keys? Are they cut to the number 9 depth? some keys that i've seen sold are only cut to the 8th depth. Also, with bumping, You have to hit the key, and then, a split second later you turn the key. But check in the search for better explanations. Hope this helps.

don't try bumping with steel tools, I tried some large spoons and stainless butterknife handles and had very little success, you would be better off with a wooden whacker not too big or heavy

lockpicks.com sells a very nice bumping hammer, the striker is some kind of teflon like material, with a flexible handle. works great.

Hey, this sounds like me when i started, i suggest you take note of the pressure you're giving the key, it makes a HUGE difference, just enough pressure to turn the key should do.

As well, as other people said, a better bump hammer. You want something that is firm, yet whippy. I find runners do very well if you are short on equipment. My runners bend easily, so they do well. Hold it over where the top of your toes would be, and make a quick brisk strike with the heel of the shoe against the key.
It works as well as a bump hammer.
Also, as with this, you need to perfect the amount of force.

Keep at it, you'll get it. Dont give up. I fluked out getting it once, and then it took me a few days of just playing with it to get it down so i could do it consistently.

Did you be sure to file down the head and end of the key a bit? (Don't know if the terminology is right), Most bump keys are sold without that done already.. Just checking :P Just takes practice though. Keep at it.
My stupid site went down so no sig :(

tip and shoulders should be filed, to allow the bump key to penetrate the lock a bit further than would normally be allowed. think of it this way: the key should penetrate the lock to a depth so that the pins rest on the slope of the teeth of the key when inserted fully. this means filing off just a SLIVER of the key. this is vital in the proper operation of a bump key.

2 things, when i get a bump key cut i find a tiny nick at the bottom the the valey make them work much better, just at the bottom to make it steeper for the first couple of mm. a single wipe with a file is enough.

Personally i use a padlock as a hammer and i find pulling my hand back about an inch as i swing it and flicking my wrist down so it strikes on the top corner of the key, not the back as most people seem to.

Also just wresting you thumb against it so it pushes the sking down a little is all u need, no real pressure at all.

when bumping use a solid plastic handle of a screw driver. preferably with a flat side.
with your thumb get a good position on the key sitting below edge of key.
put a low but stable pressure on key.
when whacking the key try to slide it of key as you hit it and listen for a crisp sound.
kind of like the sound of hitting a cue ball on an object ball.
its a crisp sound. follow through with the hit with the slide technique.
hope this helps

Here's a video I made. Its of a poor quality but that's the best I can do with my webcam.

This is Mul-T-lock classic, picked with a bump technique. I like ramming on the key several times to feel the key spring before I try to turn it. The result it show in the video.

FYI bumping is not by definition picking it is bypassing... also you might find it easier to bump with the handle of the screw driver instead of the shaft

I intend to make a rubber ring around the key's shoulder so it will be more springy and go back and forth as well.
