Federal Padlocks

They are barely mentioned on this site, surprising since it's supposed to be an american brand. Has anyone had any experience with these guys? Currently eyeing the 400 and 900 series locks, I would believe that for the price, they would have spools at the very least.

I screwed up my rekeyable ABUS while rekeying, all I have are 3 working springs... so i'm looking for a new rekeyable padlock, at least until I find somewhere to buy springs from.

The Federal Padlocks are very similar to American Padlocks, however the tolerances are not even close. Federals are a basic pin tumbler design, with no security pins whatsoever. Fortunatly, they are roughly the same size as standard American pins, so you can swap them out to make them more secure. I found all this out when I placed an order from Pac-Lok, and they sent me some Federals instead of their own name brand. If you are looking for a challenge, you might want to have a few pins handy to increase the difficulty. Hope this helps,

The 900 series apparently has mushroom pins, maybe their smaller locks have the normal pins. Thanks for the info, I think I'll go for another rekeyable ABUS instead, decently priced too.

This lock must really be of a rare sort. Kind of interesting how Brinks and Ingersoll are just a walk/drive away for some people, but I would have to pay US$15 to get it sent here. Whereas others have never heard of an ABUS.
