Picking Thumb Cuffs?

So I was doing a search over the internet, and found many dealers for thumb cuffs. They all say that they are very easy to get out of if you know the secret. They say that the cuffs are real, and that there is no hidden switch or anything. Well, my question to you is, WHATS THE SECRET?!?!?! Itâ€™s bugging the life out of me. Do they shim it? I canâ€™t see how. Hard angle to work with. If anyone has one of these cuffs, please let me know how they work. It's just bugging me that in over a hundred sites, they all talk about the secret, and I cant figure it out. If anyone has a clue, let me know, thanks,

You learn the trick to dislocate your thumb nuckle joint to just meat to get out. Easy to do once you know how.

Ummmm. Do you have to dislocate your thumb? That sounds a little over the top for me. I'm not sure I'd like doing that to my poor little thumbs. Is there any other way?

you just put them on loose, or if someone else is putting them on, you get all whingy when they try to tighten them also you bend the thumb knuckle to try to fatten up your thumb muscle behind the joint. then when its time to get out, you just pull your thumb out.

Yeah, Ray's pretty well nailed it. You need to bend your thumbs at the knuckles when they are being put on. Then, you make a BIG show of having the person tighten them, all the while keeping your thumbs bent (and pointed down so it's not obvious!). Once they've tightened them as much as they can, you disengage the spectator/volunteer, and straighten out your thumbs. Make another BIG show of how your thumbs are turning purple (by now they will be red-ish, 'cause you've had them bent while pressure was applied). At that point you can slip out of them easily. But don't do it visibly. Do it behind your back, or with your hands in a paper bag, or under a cloth, or ANYTHING but in clear view.

I used to use thumb cuffs in a gag routine, as well as a routine that involved instantaneous escape (and umm... the opposite of escape? getting back in...) of handcuffs, thumb cuffs, and a chinese finger trap. It was a comedic little routine that always went over pretty well.

yeah, thanks alot DB and Raimundo, That makes a lot of sense now. I'd like to get a pair just for fun, but only if they didn't cost too much. I think I'll check out ebay. Thanks again,

nice reply zeke i wonder how many ppl almost started pulling on their thumbs to dislocate or break em....

yah thanks db i always wondered how that was done also... i have a pair somewhere and would just tear the ______ out of the meat on my thumbs to get em off.
