i think youll find that they are simular but ive came accross many and to me they dont seem all that to be honest i mean plastic has soo much tollerance and it is possible to still get the door open from the other side if you know what to do but if a push pad has been asked to be fitted it would be unusual to be able to lock the door also as push pads are used on fire escapes etc
that ones ive fitted have been on new upvc doors with no mec in them straite out of the factory
it would be possible to modify an exsisting door in this was and what you are saying about removeing the latch would be ok providing you can unscrew it if not then be very very carfull if you take the mec appart
baring in mind not all mecs can be taken appart
as for getting hold of the right type of push pad systum for the job give D&G Servises a call on 01702 351 911
hope this helps you in anyway good luck with it
feel free to I M me about any upvc / double glazeing quereys
