I know, I know. i already have a nice pick set. SouthOrd PXS-17. But I cant help It. i always want newer and cooler stuff. I was looking at the spring steel pick set by HPC. and they look really nice. I was thinking about buying them, but I wanted to check on what ya'll thought of them first. Is the selection good? quality? feedback? let me know what you think. I did a search, but didn't see anything on these picks. maybe I just need to get a better feel for how to use that search button. But anyway. thanks for any help,
Nick

A very nice set indeed. I have had them but preferred my petersons personally but if you want to try hpc these are the way to go to try their spring steel which in my mind are their best picks.

Does anybody know why some of the picks have black handles, and some have steel handles? Are some of the picks copies? And or cheaper versions? Or could it be that they are like the euro picks? Just slimmer?
I'm not so sure about this now. I don’t want a bunch of copies. Though I do want the spring steel. though I don’t think I can afford the Peterson picks.
Decisions decisions.......

Some are just cheaper copies of regular picks in normal sets. In my color coded pick set, only the extractor was plain handled though.
I have just about any peterson pick you want to know about FYI.

Dang it,
So now I finally found the Pick set that I like:
http://www.lock-depot.com/Scripts/prodV ... roduct=119
But it says that you have to have a locksmith position or similar to be able to purchace from them...... It's not fair......
Can anyone find a website that sells these picks, to just the general public?
Any help would be much appreciated.

HA HA, I read the fine print:
"Anyone purchasing locksmith tools must be a locksmith, a locksmith in training, or an individual who lives where it is legal to have appropriate tools
So I guess that I can order these picks, I live in Texas, and Texas doesn't care if we have them or not. pheww. Lucked out on that one.
p.s. sorry for all the posts, I'm just excited, lol

Let me give you a hint.
The only reason you buy the HPC PRO pickset is to get the case. <G>
All HPC sets come with steel handles and non handled picks. Obviously the PRO set has more handled picks, but if you take the time to go over to the HPC web site at: http://www.hpcworld.com you will see which picks come with handles and which ones don't. Also, you will get some great images of their sets.
I am not sure if lockpicks.com sells individual picks, but I would probably buy the pro set, and the pip 2000 stainless set and dump all my good picks into the pro case, and use the smaller case as a backup set.
I use HPC all the time, as well as the ILCO rubber handled picks. I would have to say though, that beside my own picks Peterson is about the best you can get. As soon as I find a nice economical way to make those rubber handles, I will be offering them as an option with my own. I still haven't figured out a good way to make plastic handles like the Peterson or Rytan plastics.
At any rate, HPC like most companies, stamp their picks, so you should buy some sand paper, a bottle of gun blue and some steel wool. Take the time to finish the picks, and then re-blue them and polish with the steel wool. HPC are probably one of the best on the market for mass produced picks.
Enjoy,
Romstar
