Hey, Recently got interested in lockpicking, was checking out random FAQ's when I came across your site, it looks awesome so far, and I hope to learn a lot from it, and I probably will since my current experiance is with a couple brass "Mountain" locks I've been picking with a safety pin and a flattened nail.

Also, we would like to point out the two rules that you should observe at all times while you are picking.

1. Never, EVER pick a lock that does not belong to you, or for which you do NOT have express permission to pick.

2. Please do not pick locks that you rely on. This can result in damage to the lock, and cause costly repair or replacement.

Take a look at the new users section, first and don't be afraid to ask any questions just remember to try a search before posting.

If you're looking for locks to pick, buy some but, DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON
I repeat DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON, they can and will break, then your house/car/safe/chasity belt is vulnerable or unable to be opened (think: emergency situation).

Hey everyone! I am new here! (obviously)

Well, due to recent circulation of an illustrated manual, I thought I'd look into lock picking. It has always been something that has sparked my interest,something that I spent hours on when I was younger with a few locks, and a few techniques (VERY crude, but worked with enough patience) Well, I want to try it a little more formally this time, so I got a hacksaw blade, and made some picks. I don't have my digital camera with me unfortunately, but I think they came out pretty good. Tommarrow I am going to pick up a few cheap locks and have at em.

Lucky for you guess, I am the king at the search button, so no needs to worry about this newb!

Hi there! I'm new to all of this and really stoked to have found this forum. I read about lock sport in a PDF I found on MAKE blog and was hooked (pun intended). I already sat down and started breaking up hacksaw blades and am going to get new heads for my Dremmel. I've been fascinated with lock smithing and cracking locks since I was about ten years old. I used to be able to crack dial locks on kids lockers in school, (Hey, I was young) and can still open my cheap bike lock with my eyes closed. It's great to find so many others cut from the same cloth!

NoRemorse, whatever your skills with the search function may be, don't linger with asking if you don't know.
Both the person asking as well as the one answering the question expands his knowledge by the questions made on this forum.
It's how we grow.

As said before:
-Only pick locks you own (or have permission to pick from the legitimate owner).
-Try to use the search function to get the most obvious answers from previous threads.
-If you can't find it, ask anyway.
