Hmmm... this is odd...

Hmmm... this is odd. Man, if someone had a LOT of time on their hands, they could really screw over the LOCKS, SAFES, AND SECURITY book guys. I'm thinking that Amazon needs to rethink this part of their website. It’s really not fair to the book people.

I was looking at the AmazonOnlineReader site. Where you can go to review books, and see random pages in the books that you want to buy. Well I was looking at the book, Locks, safes, and Security. And I noticed that it shows all the pages from the book, in random order from page 1 through page 800 something. You can just highlight the pages, and copy (ctrl-c) them into Microsoft word files. If you were to copy all of them, you would have half the book for free to look at. I don’t think it’s illegal because they are already showing it to you. As long as you don’t try and sell it I suppose. But I’m not sure if they should still allow you to do this. After you click the pages like 20 times, it tells you that it won’t let you see any more pages. That seems like at least they are trying to protect the book. But, if you delete your cookies, you can go back to looking at more random pages. Now we have a problem. If you were really crazy, and had a lot of time on your hands, you could organize the pages into a book on Microsoft Word and read the whole thing (well, the two sections) on your computer.

At least the first two sections that they show aren’t of high security locks. The safes are in section three. But still, Amazon should change this feature of their website.

:-/

By the time you actually finish "copy/pasting" all of the pages at random you could have just spent the time working at a low-wage job and bought the real thing.

Not if you have high speed.

Of course, there is nothing like owning the real books, and to be honest, he deserves the money for this thing. Its just quite honestly one of the best books out there.

hey- outside of picking i also hack. i mean.....cough....cough. no i dont.

if i actually have the time/inclination to do so, i might do it. although, as stated, the author deserves the money for this. i mean, 800 pages? it is the locksmiths bible. so that i understand.

on the other hand, i dont have $3k or whatever to pay for it.

lastly, a thread with lss for free download would be up for no more than 15 minutes. a mod or admin would immediately delete the thread, and the OP would have some sort of formal warning. (i think)

lp101 doesnt want to be known as the hacker/picker forum. and a lawsuit is the last thing i or lp101 needs anywho.....

but personal use..... that is VERY different......

This is an old hack, I've heard of it before. What you do is go to the search bar and just type in page numbers '1', '2', '3', etc. and it brings up the corresponding page. My understanding is that if a book on amazon has the 'look inside feature' then you can pull up any (and therefore every and therefore the entire book eventually) this way.

It's really not worth it, and I much prefer having a hard copy over an electronic one of a text, but it's still a cool trick.

Print and cut and paste are disabled.

Just as an experiment I tried.

Did anyone actually get it to work?
