UNFORGIVEN wrote:it will be an allen screw
these are a pain in the a*ss to me they dont seem to secure the cylinder in place tight enough but they hold it where it should go
but you also have to make sure they are screwed in far enough so that when you lift the handles the sliding mec clears it

a warning dont screw it in too much i lernt this the hard way many years ago and lost the screw in the mec but mannaged to get over the problem

hope it goes ok for ya

any upvc questions dont hesitate to ask

Regards

I went back with my allen keys - and although a lot smaller than i was expecting the head to be it did just come out! Thanks Unforgiven!

I was paranoid about losing the screw (both on the way out and on the way back in!) It cleared the sliding mechanism, and then reached the end of whatever thread it was going into. I agree with the comment about it not seeming to hold the cylinder as securely as a normal screw does.

So, now I've managed to get all the cylinders out (and back in again!) I'm in search of new cylinders.
Are there any locksmiths/suppliers in the Coventry/Rugby area who would be willing to supply something like the EVVA 3KS to me at a competitive price so I can fit them, and what sort of price I'd be looking at? PM me if you want.
I think there will be three for my friends house, two for mine, and possibly two or three for my sisters house (noticed on my last visit that the front door cylinder protrudes by at least 7-8mm, and from my newly gained eye for these things, looks prime for attack with a snapper). I have most of the cylinder dimensions required, so can provide these if I find a willing provider.

Thanks everyone for your help, its been invaluable! :D

List price for a 92mm is about £80. Cheaper to go for a DPS at around £45. I see little point in spending loads on a cylinder when your protecting a UPVC door.

I'm with ACL. I hope this question is being asked by a DIY housholder and not a trading locksmith.

Er..whats the point of having this forum if you cant ask questions?

I didnt blank off the shootbolts..the double glazing company did.
If i have not been advertising as a locksmith & just doing a few jobs for friends or by word of mouth surely that isnt a problem.

How am i supposed to learn if i dont do any work...u advertise the training course on here and was taught by who i think is the best but that was in June & have been practising & learning since whilst working with an electrician or earning enough to buy all tools so i can do somthing that interests me!!
UPVC doors were not part of course so dont really know much about them & cant seem to find much info on the way the mechs are fixed to the lock case.
There is so many different multipoint locks and beings the one im looking at is very old Yale ! deadbolt & 2 Shootbolts i dont seem to even be able to find bloody handles to fit.
I dont really know much about these doors so i am bit worried about damaging it.
It looks to me as if the bolt mechs are a long piece of threaded rod??
So help would be appreiciated...

I am going to get some doors from local dump & from friends in d-glasing industry so i can learn & am not going into this business head first so i dont fail or _ up peoples property.
I would also appreciate the n ame of the company which does the UPVC course as i have lost their number.

Its up 2 u lot if u wanna help but please dont slag me off for trying to get into a trade which intrests me..

Thanks.
Alan.

If you want to learn about upvc go on a training course with someone like dg supplyline. you have to remember this a lockpicking forum so help will be limited on how to fix these mechs. Also if your serious join a locksmith organisation where you can ask these sorts of questions on a dedicated locksmith forum.
Sure you need experience to proceed but if your limited in this area go on a course and learn like everyone else has to.
