How did I? I took the removeable core out and handed it to my friend, then I told him to push the shackle in. Then I looked away. I turned in time to see the shackle and big spring to springing onto the carpet of sixth hour. From what I can understand, the shackle was pushed in without aligning the other part of the shackle so it would go in the other hole, the force pushed on the ball holding the shackle in, which in turn pinched the piece that locked both of the balls, and since there was no core to keep it in place, it just pinched out the bottom hole. That left space for both balls to collapse into the newly formed hole at the center, which in turn released the shackle, and the spring that was constantly pushing the shackle up acted like a nice mechanism to propel the lone shackle out of the body. Of course, the spring followed suit. Now...the only thing I can't understand is where the small spring was in all of this. If you look at the center piece that pushed the balls out, one indent is larger then the other one. The smaller indent won't let the ball that holds the always-in side of the shackle to go intirely into the lock, so it's still sticking out into the shackle's hole a little and not letting me push the shackle back in.

It's hard to explain, so I'm sorry for the poor description. I think the next thing to do is to try and find an allen wrench that can loosen the screw on the bottom of the shackle, that will maybe allow the metal to squeeze just that last bit and allow me to push it back into its hole. Then I can reach the allen wrench up through the hole in the bottom, through the middle of the spring, and tighten the shackle's screw once it's back in one piece.

I have sure learned a lot about the workings of this lock though.

Sorry, I posted as soon as I found out, Just to try and avoid what you just did. :( :(

Anyways, here's some pics.

Everything all together.

The Shackle, showing how the spring is attached to it.

The shackle and piece that interacts with the cylinder and the balls.

Now, for the how to.

Postion the lock bottom up, with the S in brinks facing towards you,

Now, in the ball bearing hole on the side with the S, drop in the ball bearings. One will fall thru the hole, one will not. The one that doesn't fall thru is the correct one.

Now, push the shackle in, and hold it with a big elastic. Make sure its full pressed in.

now, keeping ball #1 in the hole it was earlier, drop in ball #2, into its hole. Push it in, using a pair of tweezers.

Now, inset the Round metal piece that interacts with the Cylinder + balls.

The tab that has the spring attached to it will point in the direction of the S in brinks,

It will fit into the little notch. Look inside, you'll see what I mean.

Now, push the core in, turn it a bit with the key, it should drop in fully.

Now, remove the elastic, and unlock the lock.

Make sure the core doesn't fall out, and replace the screw.

Voila.

It seems to have lost its spring tension, I don't know why though....

I got it reassembled, and I have a couple things to change in my guide for anyone who does a search and needs this later on:

1. The ball bearings are the same size, the will both fit through one hole, but not the other. From the way I read your description, it sounded like one ball bearing would fit through the "S" hole but not the other ball bearing. And I didn't push the shackle the entirely down: I only pushed it far enough so the indents in the shackle would line up with the holes the ball bearings go through, so that the ball bearings would sink into the shackle. If you pushed the shackle all the way in, the ball bearings would stick out into the center hole of the lock and you couldn't get the piece in your last three pics to fit in. I had to balance each ball bearing in their hole and drop the center piece in. After that, just put the pin tumbler in and turn it with the key until it sinks the whole way in like you described.

I then took it apart again and reassembled it to make sure I had everything down. The only way I can find to get that center piece out again once you dropped it in is to take the core out and then push the shackle down to lock the lock.

Thats Good!

MIne definitely has 2 different sized ball bearings, like I said, one falls thru the S hole and one doesn't.

I can see why you didn't have to push the shackle all the way in, but I did and it worked fine too.

But, whatever, glad to hear you got it back together.

are you posative about those ball things? I made doubly sure that both would fit through when I disassembled it for another look. Is it possible that you put one ball through the "s" hole then accidently got mixed up and put the other ball through the "B" hole? On mine both will fall through the B hole, and neither will fall through the s hole.

Just my 2¢
