picking a padlock

Postby adamm » 17 Nov 2006 16:29

i have a couple pad locks that ive been picking for the past few days, anyways there is one that i can pick in under a second but then other times it takes me forever to get it open. i took a flashlight and looked down the lock to try and see what was going n inside, a counted how many pins where in the lock from looking at the key. This lock has 5 pins, i know ive hit all 5 of them and pushed them down while keeping pressure but it doesnt open for some reason.

ive picked this lock with a saftey pin and 5 picks that ive made by myself, so i dont think its a question of using the wrong tool. anyone know why it is acting up, or am i doing something wrong?

Some locks are just funny like that. I have one cam lock I've been working on for, literally, about a week before it opened for me. AFAIK, it has no security pins, it's just a crotchety old lock. Don't stress, just keep trying until you get it.

Of course, it could be security pins. What type of padlock is it? Does it open with the key?

you may be applying too much tension causing the pins to false set. try using less tension and some kind of oil to help the pins slide more easily. hope this helps.
