I was looking at getting some more top pins. Would schlage #1, #2, and #3 top pins work fine as top pins for kwikset also? Would there be any drawbacks? I can't think of any but then again I am real new.

Should be fine. Try not to use too long a top pin when the bottom pin is also a long one. It can deform the spring or make the key difficult or impossable to insert or remove.
 Been playing with locks since '68.
