This is fun! back to the question. I did Kens course in 2004 and yes there is a lot to learn especially if you do the BS bits with Martin Newton. It gives you an insight to the business but would never teach you everythng you need to know that only comes with practice and hands on training. There is alot else to consider not just the practical bits theres also running the business eg accounts advertising customer service marketing you need to be organised and put a lot of time and effort into this to so you can succeed. I get a lot of jobs that people have rung around for quotes and have been put off my the persons telephone manner for instance so they lose the job.
I did Kens course and started up a month later. I had some redundancy money behind me which was essential. I am still going and growing it is very hard though and you will need 110% commitment but if you pull it off it is very rewarding. Good Luck

Stewroper,
you say you've been buying tools already. Are these picking tools
& decoders? If so what have you bought so far? What other tools do you have?
The reason i ask is if you let us know on here we can help you make the right desision on what to buy and what will be a waste of money. Unless you've got a trailer load of cash watching your spending is vital when your fist setting up.
Maybe you could put as list together and post it here.

There seems to be a common thread forming here. As soon as a certain course is commented on in the slightest negative way a post soon appears extoling the virtues of it. He even knows when someone has paid for a course months in advance. I would be worried if someone had inside information on my buisness
On a positive note I hope everyone trains as a locksmith and buys all the shiny tools going. I will then keep my eyes on E-bay for when they sell them after making a fortune in a very short time and retiring to the Bahamas.

secondcity, you are ok but i dont like it when people knock my fathers courses. Listen, I don't know you, your dad, or your uncle. Also with this attitude:quickpicker wrote:i demise nobody but you all demise me

all of you
I could really care less. Who you are related to does not allow you- or ANYONE else to act like this. Maybe you do know alot about locks, but I say you have alot to prove, because of the arrogance you have portrayed... Do you see any mods/admins posting the way you do, or any other members that have been here for for a while? (I only know of one, but hes a Drunk)
If you had come onto this forum with a completly different attitude...
Now, I think its your turn to surprise us all.. Teach us, O God of Locks...
Oh, this is all my personal opinion. With that said... Rant off

and thats what's great about the internet anonminity... unless you find that the hotchick you were chatting with is an overweight, hairy male in his late 40's who goes by either 'Candy' or 'Frank' <shutters>...
