Brinks Deadbolt Dissasembly

Postby melvin2001 » 21 Nov 2006 1:03

Here is a complete dissasembly of a brinks 2018-105 series deadbolt. Not really sure why i went through the trouble of making this as it doesn't contain a lot of information thats new or anything. but it never hurts to see what a lock looks like from the inside. i plan on doing one of the brinks "home key" padlock too, and that is much more interesting. at any rate have fun.

the silver pin is just made out of some crazy metal. im not really sure of the purpose but it has a bit of magnetism to it. originally that was the only pin of its kind in the lock so its not like i put it in there after the fact. i do believe it was in the first pin stack in the lock and may just be there to reduce wear and tear (possibly a tougher metal) but im not 100% on that.

what a coincidence Ijust bought one of these locks at lunch, though I kinda screwed it up alittle bit already I accidentally bent 2 of the springs. Is it possible to buy just springs for it? I think I'm just going to go buy another one till I get new springs for it.

could that silver pin be a harder metal, used in the first position to prevent drilling?

and, do all Brinks locks come with the bitting code punched into the key? My rekeyable Brinks came with the decoded bitting punched into the key as well.

ok I bought another brinks deadbolt on my way to work and once i disassembled it the odd pin (the one thats not brass) was in the 5th postition instead of the 1st like the other one. They both had 2 security pins (spools) both locks had them at the 2nd and 4th positions.

well seeing as im not 100% sure the rouge pin was actually in the 1st stack its safe to say that the pin is either placed randomly, or more likely in the last stack. which pretty much ruins our theories on why it is there. any other ideas?

... dose the bevel on 1 end prevent picking :?

all the other top pins are flat

or maybe brinks has alot of those pins from a older lock that they dont make anymore and need to get rid of of them :lol:

baffeld by the weird pin,

Well I'm 100% sure that on the first lock the odd pin was in the 1st position on mine. Then on the second lock it was in the 5th place. How many security pins did ya'lls have?

Genesis;
You can buy replacement springs that will fit those locks.

what a coincidence Ijust bought one of these locks at lunch, though I kinda screwed it up alittle bit already I accidentally bent 2 of the springs. Is it possible to buy just springs for it? I think I'm just going to go buy another one till I get new springs for it.

Most places that sell pins also sell springs, the link below is one example.

thanks for the info I got mine at walmart so I wasn't really expecting them to have springs for locks (or anything else I needed for that matter) so I'll just order me some sometime
