Great wipper blade inserts

Postby Lauren » 22 Nov 2006 23:13

I went to my local Wal-Mart. I found a brand of wiper blades by Anco that have fantastic quality of spring steel inserts. They measure .160 inches in width as compared to the classic .095 inch inserts that I've been using.

So far I've made several tension wrenches and high quality picks with these wider inserts. The material bends well, even twist bends are easy. You can forget ever having to use street cleaner brushes again. I got 44 inches out of one replacement wiper for less than five dollars American. I might consider going to my local auto-wrecking yard sometime to see if I could get a better deal. :)

I got a bunch on a rainy day in the trash bins in front of AutoZone. And they were all FREE!

Free is cool, but were they the bigger width?

Yes, about 1/4" wide. I am going to make some picks out of them or at least see if they will work for that. It would be worth the trip to the nearest parts place to see if you find some that would work. Rainy days are the best time to go.

Anco, that was the name of them.

I posted a little while back explaining the different sizes and such and called the Ilco "what a dummy, must have came from reading another post".

Anyway, they are the ones in the yellow package for about $3-4 USD, nothing unusual about them except they are for large truck and big rigs, just a little heavier duty.

I just now (5 minutes ago) put a new set of Anco's on my Sister's truck. I hated to see 4 stainless steel wiper inserts got to waste like that but at least I got to keep the old ones...

wiper blades

Postby IC-Johnny » 24 Nov 2006 13:30

I did just what burchlockkey did. Oddly enough at the same auto parts chain store. Last week it rained almost all week. Just go there about 2 hours before the store closes. The buckets in front of the store were filled with used wiper blades.

I bet I got 30 blades. Amongst them were many different types, including a Bosch blade. The Bosch blade had one very nice piece of steel that had some sort of paint on it. It was thicker than all of the others. They made a great tension wrench for a "Finch" type SFIC tensioner. It fit perfectly in the bottom of a BEST "G" type core.

A great resource!
