I have a 5 pin "Interlock" that I picked recently.IT was all good until i decided to put the key in, lock it, and do it again. The key wouldnt go in. It apears the pins stayed "picked", but it still wont rotate, and the pins wont go up anymore to allow the key in. However, the key goes in and works fine from the other side. I done a search and it seems there isnt really any quick fix, so before I bin it is there a chance that there is something I'm missing. Ive given it a good shake with the tension wrench, and attempted to move the pins with a pick, but they ont budge.
PLease Help.

Have you tryed bumping the lock?
How rough are you with picking?
Have you been pressing the pins up as high as they will go?
Spray a load of WD-40 into the lock and let it sit in a pot with some in,
After 10 mins try pressing the pins down all together with your tension wrench,
Theres little point in throwing a practice lock away, one side works so youve still got a practice lock there, the other side you can use to learn repinning with and working out what the problem is with the lock, if you throw it away now then you will have a big pile of locks in your bin until you start repairing them,

my vote is that the lock is either rusted or damaged in some way. try lubing it down with some 3 in 1 spray lubricant, then try jiggling it again. if that doesn't work then take the lock apart and give it a nice bath in some lighter fluid, replace any damaged parts, then lube and re-assemble.

locks not rusty, its looks brand new... Ive tryed lubricating it and jiggling it around. I took the barrel out, but cant seem to find a way in further. Im no locksmith however... Yeah I wasnt actually going to throw it away, just give up on it, theres still half left I can practise on. I havnt tryed bumping, I havnt gt a bump key to fit this lock and not sure whether the time it would take to make one would be worthwile, as Im not sure if it would work anyway. Shrub, when you asked me if i have pressing the pins as high as they go do you mean bfore or after the problem? I guess before, when i was picking the lock probably not, and after the problem they wont move at all so I think no...THanks for the ideas guys.

Yes i meant while you were picking,
Has the plug come out a small amount or even maybe gone in depending how cheap the lock is?
What make is the lock?
If soaking it in WD-40 doesnt work then get a soft mallet and gently tap the case where the pin stacks will be, tap a bit harder if it still doesnt work that may help,
Im not sure whats gone off here, you say you removed the barrel? what do you mean by that?
Was you picking your door lock?

how can I tell if the plug has moved? SOunds like a decent explanation. the lock was in a door, until I pulled it apart. the door was not in use so please dont give me a lecture about picking locks that you rely on.... Dont have a mallet but could imporovise with a hamer... MAybee a bit of pvc pipe to stop scratching etc. The brand of lock is "interlock".

Everybody gets the lecture, sorry about that.
Is there any way you can post a picture or two of the lock? It may make it easier for someone to help you diagnose the thing.

There is a tutorial on here about posting pics, but basically you need an account at photobucket or a similar site that allows you to upload pictures, and post their links.
http://www.photobucket.com will get you all set up. You upload the pictures, come back here, and stick the img tag into the message you are posting.
Once you do it a few times, it becomes second nature really.

Did you rotate the plug 180 degrees? If you did, the top pins probably dropped into the keyway and the bottom pins would "stay picked." No amount of WD-40 will cure this situation.
It is not the pick, it's the picker!

Push the bottom pins back up with a pick, and continue to rotate with a tension wrench.

I guess all this shows is that the pins wont fall back down. You can kind of see the first pin that is set.
