TUBULER LOCK PICKING HELP !

i dont know if i should be embarresd in asking about picking as i am a locksmith lol but hear goes
i got a tubuler lock on a car croock lock i used to use called a `BILLY BAT`
its a stering wheel lock shaped like a baseball bat but opens on a tubuler lock
ive seen the videos on the net about opening these locks with the top of a pen so i thought what the hell ill give it a go
( before its added to this thread i know you shouldent pick locks you rely on but i dont rely on this lock anymore and have no use for it what so ever )

i tryed for about 20 mins and couldent get it to open with a pen lid

my questions are

1: is the pen lid thind all a load of brown smelly stuff ?

2:is there a certain techneque in picking and what am i ment to be feeling for ?

yes i am a lockie but no ive never been called to a tubuler lock before
so in exsperence i wouldent know

I saw one of these recently that was a tubular dimple lock. Could it have been the same one?

If it is just a tubular lock try sanding down your pen to make it thinner. I have managed to open a tubular lock with a cheap marker cap that was very thin and never with a bic. less plastic means less force required to impression, might do the trick.

thanks for the replys but the pen im useing fits it spot on all i need to know is the techneque
i know you have to rock left and right slightly but what else ? do you move in and out ?
when will i know its picked will it click ?

possibly if its the one i saw its a black D lock with a blue end of a pen it was opened in seconds thats what got me thinking

You have to use it as if you were using a key. push down and turn CW and CCW over and over till it turns. The thinner the plastic the less force required...

The cardboard roll is supposed to work better but ive had neither work but thats through lack of trying to be honest, played once gave up,

As a lockie theres no excuse to not by a shiney new tubular pick it will pay for itself the first job you do,

The roll and pen top methods do work but on the cheaper locks, the ones on the billy bat are simular to a ace 2 i think so use differant spring pressures so maybe not supceptable quite as easily,

i am debaiting on getting a tubuler pick in time but like i said ive never had a job envolving one as of yet but you never know i could get one
so guess im gonna go shopping again lol

I had very good luck with a bic "stick" cap

This is the soft plastic cap (black) with the clip attached .. Just trim the clip off with a razor knife and it should fit perfectly.
I use the 'push and turn” method... seems to work on the cheeper "non- ace II" haven' tried for long but it didn't work on the only ace II I tried.
of course your results may vary.
