need help w/ master lock 140

Postby liadifuertes » 1 Nov 2006 15:17

Hi, I've been lurking around the forum for quite some time now, and have read many of the threads on lock picking the Master Lock 140, but none of them seem to work for me. I tried reverse picking, over lifting the spool pins with the pick, and raking, but at least one of the spool pins always seems to bind. I'm pretty sure I am getting a false set because all the key pins are set but the plug won't move. Can someone please help me?

Is this the first lock you've worked on? I'm of the opinion that padlocks are not the best way to start learning to pick locks.

However, from experience, Master padlocks usually pick easiest with very light tension and a gentle picking action. Once you get stuck on the spool pin, you'll feel the plug turning back on you and it's a very delicate action to lift the spool to the shear line.

Cheers,

db

Think he has used the search UWSDWF!

Practice, I get the 140 by inserting a hook wiggling a bit and then going in to fish out the spools which is easy enough!! :D Not a hard lock. Rake it once or twice, then use a hook to feel the 4 pins. Put pressure on them with light tension until you feel the plug try to turn the other way. Thats the spool, set it and move on to the next (2 spools in mine) It will pop before long.

If you still can't get it put it down and try something else (or give it the good news with a half diamond)
:D :D :D

All of the 4 times I have gotten my 140 it was with a medium hook. I didn't know they had spools until about a week ago :D

For the last 2 days ive been playing with 4 master No4s and have got them all open now. 3 of them i can get open every time. so i decided 2 pick up my no140. 30 seconds later its open. i can pick it faster than the master No3s every time. have u got a strange HiLow pin setup?

I have found on my 140 that it takes a good amount of pressure to set the pins even when I don't have much force on the tension tool. be persistent it will pop. min is a brand new lock by the way.

I am currently trying to pick my no 140. It is my first exposure to anytype of security pin. Does anyone here know how many or what kind are in them. I run into the same problem the thread starter has run into.

im not sure if im correct but at a guess its the center 2 pins that seem 2 give me the most trouble. try setting the pins with a hook and when u think they are all set but it doesn't pop give it a decent rake with not much tension.
