Got a call from this lot, (actually 3 today!)

Vardi Gb Ltd

After me to donate in their yearbook/calender/what-ever.

Did a bit of investigation and got these -

Good advice to leave that lot alone - they call every week usually. Keep telling them to get stuffed. There's been a few threads on here about them too.

If you do happen to give in one time, they'll send you an invoice but never a copy of the advert (as if it ever existed...). Write / email back saying that you're cancelling the contract as per their own t&c's on the back of the invoice, saying you didn't get the proof of the advert so the contract is void.

In future I might start doing what someone here recommended, say they need to speak to the 'Head of Advertising' but that you think he'll love the idea, and then give them the number of the local trading standards department.

I'd tell them to "cease and desist all calls immediately, any further calls will be deemed as harassment and will be dealt with accordingly through the local constabulary"

All businesses that deal with this type of calling schemes train their personnel to identify and take serious such lingo, as they assume at that point you have consulted with a lawyer.

Good advice too - will try that next time they call. Tho I've got to admit that "f**k off and die" is infinitely more satisfying....

Big embarrassment the other day!

Lady with Liverpool accent phones "Hi! I'm Mrs B****ggs, I'm just moving into your area and got your name from ??? website. I work for the Forrester Foundation, have you heard of us? We work with......"

Suffering from the onset of Manflu, my patience already tested by a nagging wife, the hairs on my neck are prickling and I begin to interupt her, "I'm not interested in advertising in your magazine, journal or calendars!"

Lady becomes indignant, "Why do you think I want to sell you advertising?"

"Mainly because I get four or five calls like this a month!" I try to stay positive.

"Well!" She gets annoyed. "All I wanted was a quote to change the locks on a new property we are buying!"

I still don't know to this day if she was very clever at marketing or if I put the phone down on a potential cutomer. Guess in the future I best hear the customer out before I go on a rant.

You're not alone, Bump, I've done the same, only I had a suspicion it may have been a genine customer when I put the phone down so did 1471 straight away, realised it was a local number, called back, explained and got the job!

I've nearly done it since too, I guess I'm far too quick to cut these sales people off but they frustrate the h3ll out of me.

While we're on the subject, is there anything more frustrating than receiving unwanted faxes advertising vans for hire, computers or website design using YOUR ink and YOUR paper? Especially when the phone goes at 2am and it's one of these. If it didn't cost and didn't alert them to the fact someone actually exists on the other end of the line they would immediately receive said fax back with a big "f*** *ff and annoy someone else with this unwanted sh*te" scribbled across the page.

one of my clients is the one of the largest companies in the world... some pissant bank in BC sent them a fax, addressed to the company in question, regarding financial assistance for business. I was totally flabergasted, I mean come'on do some research this company turns brofits in the billions of dollars and is publically traded... why whould they even bother

quick tip: Run your fax machine through your computer. Windows Fax manager will let you preview it and decide wether or not to print it.
